W.S. Bridge Bike Trail Closed (3/1, 8PM)

  1. The West Seattle Bridge Bike Trail is effectively closed at its Eastern end - Spokane St. & E. Marginal Way. One of the fences collapsed into the temporary bike path, completely obstructing the path (likely knocked down by a parking truck today.)

I'm not sure who to else to contact to report this (i.e. SDOT, police,) so go ahead if you know the best method.

  2. This happens fairly regularly and please do report it to SDOT right away. They need to fix this area. The last time this happened it came down on cyclists/peds who were in the detour area!

It was cleared when I went by ~8:00AM today, Wednesday. It was also clear last night around 6PM when I was on the way home.

Hope no one got hurt! How'd you get around it last night?

  4. @Al: thanks for the heads-up. I know it's a tricky situation. I already reported it by email, and also let them know that trucks do often push the fence, narrowing the bike path (hence my suspicion they may have carelessly knocked it down.)
@sunshine: No choice, back onto E.Marginal and right onto Spokane. Fortunately it was light traffic and the few vehicles got around me fairly easily. I did look to see if anyone was under the fence, looks like no one was hurt.

  5. Also, if you have ANY problem affecting a road, sidewalk, trail like this, the hotline is 684-ROAD. I *believe* they answer around the clock. If they don't, google for the Charles Street Dispatch number ...

  6. I've reported this area, and the narrowing of the detour due to trucks backing into it to SDOT as well! Just keep on reporting it.

The last time I saw this a couple drivers had uprighted the fence after the guy who did it drove off (they were very nice and we had a good conversation - not all drivers are bad, it's the 1% you have to watch out for!).

If the trucks back into it then you can sometimes get around by detouring through the truck lot. Otherwise you have to make your way around on the street as MindDrive. Not a fun detour from the detour.
