VanessaParticipantI truly am on a rant when our own grocery stores are stocked with apples all from New Zealand. I was just in TJ’s and asked if there were any Washington grown apples. NONE!
I told the management at both stores that I will never buy apples in their stores that aren’t grown in WASHINGTON!
I missed the Farmer’s Market this morning, I’m sure there would have been some there. The market near the VA hospital probably carries some local fruit? Where else? Does Burien still have a mid week market? I know I could look it up, but I’d rather chew the fat with my WS homies.

mtnfreakParticipantCheck out Metropolitan Market – I think that there are some local selections there.

Infrequent CommenterMemberHi,
Burien Farmer’s market is Thursday afternoon in the town square. Also, the Safeway on Roxbury always has Washington Apples and usually WA peaches.
And I have to give a shout out for Duane’s Garden Patch over in Boulevard Park. Definitely worth going a little out of your way:

Good luck! And I agree with your rant:) We’re the Apple state!!!

Mark32ParticipantLocal crop will soon be available, produce is available from different regions depending on the time of year. Think about it this way, if you were to buy a local apple before the new crop arrives it will have been in storage for a year. Products from the Southern hemisphere are fresher and taste better because of it.

SueParticipantI’d try PCC – they usually have local produce available. I don’t know for a fact since I don’t eat apples though.

datamuseParticipantMost of the local apples aren’t ripe yet.

trickycooljParticipantI was just thinking it’s a bit early for Washington apples. Gala, Fuji and Honey Crisp always seemed to time right around when I went back to school at UW so late Sept/October. Rising Sun Produce on the corner of 65th and 15th north of UW always had the fancy export quality apples, they weighed over a pound each!

melissaParticipantWashington galas are on sale at PCC for $1.99/lb, or were last Thursday when I bought a bunch. They also have Washington honeycrisps, but they were crazy spendy.

anonymeParticipantI just bought local new crop apples at PCC on Friday. Most of their fruit (except the tropical stuff) is grown locally.

Infrequent CommenterMemberJust went to Duane’s and found honeycrisps for $1.89 / lb. Plus other great produce mostly from Yakima or the Kent Valley.

And they are super friendly!

shed22ParticipantWest Seattle Produce Company on Fauntleroy also carries local selections.

HunterGParticipantLocal new crop apples will be widely available in a few weeks. It isn’t a conspiracy. Do people not understand growing seasons around here?
