Why do you think it is OK to put your dog pooh in my trash can?

Why would you think I want to smell your dogs pooh when I take out the trash? If you don\'t want to carry it back to your own house then why do you think I want it at mine? Yes, you were made to come back and retrieve it. You chose the responsibility of your dogs, not me.

I don\'t think it\'s that big of a deal.

I mean you\'re taking out the trash it isn\'t going to smell pleasant to begin with.

Most people don\'t even do that much, they just leave the poo sitting around for someone to step on, like myself or a kid etc.

Seriously. Maybe people think its okay because it\'s a TRASH can and they assume that you probably don\'t store sweet-smelling valuables in it but rather use it for TRASH. Pick your battles.

The way I see it there are two places dog poop is going to be left: in a trash can or on the ground. I, for one, would much rather have it in my garbage can. Maybe you\'d rather step in it.

I think it\'s kind of like picking flowers in a park. You think it\'s OK, being just one flower... But if everybody and their dog did it, well let\'s just say it wouldn\'t smell like flowers anymore. :-)

Let me put in a different light. If I am doing a remodel and have a large dumpster in my driveway, is it OK for you to dump your old couch in there?

I would rather it be in my trash rather than on the ground for me to step in.

Dog walkers see this as an invitation! Pick up the crap....put it in my garbage.

I would much rather have it in the trash then left in my yard or worse yet the person who manages to put it in the bag and throw it in my bushes when there is a public park trash can a few feet up or my trash can in the back alley way you can throw it in! Please i invite you put it in my trash!

I see plenty of responsible dog owners tie it to the leash and pack it home or just carry it. If I step in it then that would be the irresponsible dog owner who left it. That would be another subject. Would it be appropriate for me to dump my kids dirty diaper in your trash can on my walk back from the park? What is the boundary?

I\'d take the dog poop in a bag over diapers any day.
Why can\'t someone tie the diaper to the stroller, pack it home like the dog owners do?

This is an interesting revisit of a similar topic months ago. I learned from that thread that it is a \"big deal\" for some. I don\'t really need to know why its a big deal; for some it just is. Consequently I have changed my habits somewhat. I want to be a good neighbor and so I checked with a few folks I\'m friendly with along my walking route with the pooch. For those who I asked, it was no problem. For others who I haven\'t asked; I don\'t do it. And the choice shouldn\'t be \"in my trash can or on my grass.\" There are other obvious options.
At my house someone on ocassion drops poop bags and diapers in my yard waste container which is clearly marked. Now that torques me a bit.

Are your trash cans out on the sidewalk? Why don\'t you put your trash can away so people won\'t be tempted to fill it with poo. If you can\'t move your cans to a less conspicuous place, consider putting a note on them, \'no poo please\'.

I am a dog owner, and I have to agree with rustlessnative. I always bring a bag with me and pick up after my dog. I also do not feel it is my right to put dog crap in someone else\'s trash can. It\'s not really my property so what gives me the right? Just be respectful and mindful of other people\'s boundaries people. It\'s not that difficult.

By the way, some people really don\'t appreciate the smell of feces in their garbage cans, it does have a distinctly different odor and pungency to it over regular trash. Especially now that most food waste can go in the recycle bin.

Maybe you should put your trash cans inside your property so it isn\'t assessable to other people. Or hey put a lock on it.

Who said that rustlessnative\'s trash can was not on her property?

Also, many places in Seattle require that you bring your trash can to the curb on garbage day. Some of us don\'t have the luxury of throwing the trash down the trash chute in our townhome/apartment complex.

The only reason it was out was because it was garbage day. I didn\'t need the offending pooh stewing in there for a week and things on the bottom tend to get squished. Locking or putting it inside my property is not the issue or resolution. It all boils down to being a responsible pet owner. I would never presume that everyone around me loves my dog as much as I do. (Even though they should!) ;)

There have been several threads on here in the past that show the unfortunate thought process of some dog owners. I recall a thread a while back where people were upset that they couldn\'t let their dogs run around off leash in parks, and another where someone was complaining that they didn\'t allow dogs into the beer garden at West Fest or in certain restaurants/pubs.

Basically it\'s pretty simple. Respect your neighbor and be responsible. It\'s not too much to ask.

Your dog, your dog\'s poop, you take care of it! This does not include disposal of poop on my premises or in my garbage (or yard waste) containers. Really, pet owners: responsibility and common decency should not be that difficult to understand....

Not cool to take what is your poop and make it someone else\'s. It all comes back to personal responsibility, period. Lets all do our part and West Seattle will be a even better place to live!

if you walk where there are no public trashcans.. you get to carry your poop home with you.

this is why i don\'t often choose to walk the dogs in my neighborhood.
