   Who do you call to get a cat out of a tree? I am posting for a co-worker. Her daughter's cat is about 50 feet up in a tree and will not come down. The vet's office suggested animal control, don't know if they've called them yet. The cat had gone missing about 3 days ago and her daughter was looking and calling for it and spotted it up in the tree.

   Or,

   Wait it out a few more days and then show up at the base of the tree with some nice chopped liver, or whatever the cat's fave is.

   Hunger can be a pretty good motivator sometimes.

   I Googled "cat in a tree, Seattle, and arborists" a few weeks ago on the same subject. A Seattle arborist company is one of several that advertises this service. They charge $150 flat fee. Their number is (206) 930-0857.

   If the cat has been without water for several days, I would be concerned about dehydration; I wouldn't risk waiting longer for the cat to climb down on its own.

    Not just dehydration but serious liver disease. Not eating for several days can be fatal to cats.

    Call Hammerhead. She's GOOD people, and she is a cat rescuer. If anyone will be able to help you, it's her. She's like a cat whisperer :)

    Thank you for all the suggestions and concern, including calling ghostbusters. Yes, the cat is now out of the tree. She belongs to my son and daughter-in-law He climbed up and got her because NOTHING would persuade her to come down, not even tuna. She ate and found a quiet place to sleep. She seems fine, with no injuries.

    Google Cat Tree Rescue, Seattle. There's an entire list of Arborists willing to get your cat out of a tree for you. There is a fee for this service and as far as I'm concerned it is money well spent. Dixon Farmer from West Seattle rescued my cat from 110' Cedar tree at 6pm on a Sunday in a rain storm, he arrived only 40 minutes after I called him.....he was exceptionally gracious and handled an extremely difficult rescue incredibly well. I can't say enough good things about this guy. When I need tree work I'm going to call on him.

    GDT, was this the Arbor Heights cat? We got a note about it on Saturday and the note vanished off our server before I could publish anything - then a photo came in on Sunday of a guy in a hard-hat holding a cat, saying the cat was safe. My followup note to the sender, asking for details so I could publish the photo, went unanswered. Sounded like an interesting story. Meantime, regardless of whether it was the same cat, glad yours is OK.

    No one. Cats climb trees. Please don't tell us you are looking for a government service to rescue an invasive species, i.e. a house cat.

    Oh for crying out loud, kootchman. Man is the invasive species. If you ever get lost in the mountains, forest, ocean how 'bout we don't send anyone to rescue you? Seems we'd all be better off.

    El Gato is a massive predation on wild song birds and the small mammal population. I hardly equate the rescue of human life to that of an invasive animal. Then again, I have common sense.

    kootchman, I hate to see songbirds hurt/killed by cats, or any other means, natural or not, too. However, cats for the most part, like dogs have been domesticated for, what, thousands of years?

    Therefore it is the fault of the irresponsible pet owner for giving their kitteh the opportunity to attack the song birds.

    Well, I would say that on the face of it... a cat stuck in a tree is pretty convincing evidence. Cats may have shared the domicile of humans for thousands of years..but not in the 'new world" where they ARE an invasive species. The prey drive of cats is innate and has not been suppressed by domesticity. Show me a 'house cat" and I will show you a rarity. De-clawed, neutered, and caged they are pets. Our free, with claws, they are invasive.
