Anyone know of local businesses who regularly hires kids at 15? I have 2 boys who will be ending their basketball season soon, and will attempt to spend their free time watching tv and texting. I figure it would be better for them to be making some fun $! Thanks for any suggestions!

  2. I have known 15 year olds who have gotten jobs at local grocery stores like Thriftway.

It'll probably be pretty tough to find anything at 15 nowadays. My older sister worked at a Taco Bell when she was 15 sometime in the early 90s, but she always mentions how it was not the most legal of employment... My younger sister is now 17 and finding it extremely difficult to find a job, even though she's had some job experience from some summer jobs! Recently she's only been able to find odd jobs for some family members that own businesses. I would suggest that, if you know anyone, or anything that pays under the table. Things like babysitting, yard work, etc? More options open up at 16. They might have more luck with volunteer work too

so many excellent projects in WS and all over our city

never too early to start with community service/volunteering; good for character, makes them feel valued, excellent learning experiences

good to have on future resumes

Won't help you right now, but have you given any thought to summer employment? I know that Camp Brinkley and Camp Pigott outside Monroe (Boy Scout camps) hire as young as 14 for counselors-in-training (unpaid) and as young as 15 for paid, full-summer staff. Hiring for the summer usually starts around February, so even though summer seems far away, now would be the time to start looking into it.
