wakefloodParticipantOK, so apparently, “Pastor” Driscoll of Mars Hill has been doing his best impression of a celebrity trying to weasel his book onto the NYT bestseller’s list.
But my question is this: Who exactly thinks they should be taking spiritual advice from this…um…jerk? What exactly makes an ignoramous like this popular? Good gawd.
Here’s a few select quotes:
When President Obama was inaugurated for his second term, Driscoll wrote: “Praying 4 our president who today will place his hands on a Bible he does not believe to take an oath to a God he likely does not know.”
On Jan. 10, 2014, he tweeted: “If you are not a Christian, you are going to Hell. It’s not unloving to say that.”

funkietooParticipantPeople like him are whack-a-doodles. Over and out.

JanSParticipantI was told when I was under 10 years old by a playmate that I was going to hell because I was not Catholic. Oh, well…
Luckily, there is a faction of previous (and maybe some still) members of said church in Post #1 that are now having some disagreement with the way Mr. Driscoll operates his church, his life.
Funkietoo…I would say a dangerous whack-a-doodle :-

amaliaParticipantAs if the book wasn’t lacking enough in facts, it turns out there’s plagiarism as well. I read that somewhere, but don’t care enough to look it up again.
April 10, 2014 at 2:40 pm #806836
wakefloodParticipantDangerous whack-a-doodle to be sure…one who claims 14,000 avid followers. Oy.

wakefloodParticipantIf your quest for spiritual enlightenment has led you to this destination, you have taken a very wrong turn somewhere.

wsn00bParticipantI know a couple that are ardent followers. The scary part is they seem completely normal by most standards.

wakefloodParticipantI suspect a meme. A thought virus has infiltrated their logic and taken hold. They no longer process reality the same way when it comes to this element of their lives…

amaliaParticipantYoung people, encouraged to have kids and live in very traditional male/female roles. I knew a girl who had a crush on a boy in the church and this next thing I know, this former atheist and normal person was baptized, married, and preggers. She couldn’t have sex with him before marriage, so that sped things up. I lost touch with her after that, but I had no doubt that she was a true believer, and also that she was brainwashed (whatever that means).

wakefloodParticipantAh, the Mormon template! You want summa’ this?? You can have it! It’s easy! Just remove your capacity for critical thought and sign right here.

skeeterParticipantJanS – as a Catholic Christian I want to apologize to you for whoever said that terrible thing to you. To set the record straight, official Catholic teaching is NOT that only Catholics go to heaven. Catholics believe in heaven and we believe heaven is full of Catholics and Jews and Protestants and Muslims and Hindus etc etc.
April 10, 2014 at 5:09 pm #806843
mpentoParticipant99% of catholics who are not american believe that american catholics are going to hell.
April 10, 2014 at 5:20 pm #806844
wakefloodParticipantAnd apparently, 100% of Mars Hillian Christians believe it’s COOL to be judgemental, closeminded, and exclusionary…just like JESUS!! (Yes, that’s sarcasm.)
April 10, 2014 at 5:24 pm #806845
skeeterParticipantmpento – do you have a source for that statistic? (post #12)
April 10, 2014 at 7:24 pm #806846
JanSParticipantskeeter…we were little kids…and kids say things. It was said in a taunting way, if I remember. She and I weren’t close friends :D
I’m not worried about my hereafter :)

HappyOnAlkiParticipantJanS and skeeter — when I was a kid I was told that I wouldn’t go to heaven because I was Catholic, not “Christian.” Heaven would be pretty sparsely populated if all those people are right about who gets to go!

JanSParticipant@Happyonalki…looks like we’re all doomed…there’s gonna be a big party somewhere, huh !
April 10, 2014 at 11:08 pm #806851
wakefloodParticipantLove it, waynster. Now, can they come back and fix a few things?
