Avalon! :) There are a few food items that are $2 & $3. The bartender is friendly and you don't feel rushed to get in and get out. 4-6 weekdays is the time.

ETA: per WSB rules, I should out myself as a partner in the business. But still, the recommendation remains. (We are 40-somethings ourselves and wanted to create somewhere comfortable to go.)

I don't see the menu, but I like Fresh Bistro's happy hour: http://www.herbanfeast.com/freshbistro

  4. I second Fresh Bistro had a great impromptu celebration there last night - the small plate menu rocks - as do the drinks and staff!

Love the bang bar. Their house wine is a steal at $4 glass during happy hour. And the prawn fresh rolls are yummy.

We never get to Jaks in time for happy hour since it ends so early, but that's a favorite place to sit at the bar just for the social aspect, not to mention the great food and wine, just not at HH prices. More times than not we end up in coversations with other patrons. As a matter of fact I met my beau there just over three years ago when we were both dining alone at the bar and struck up a conversation.
I second on Avalon - nice atmosphere and you can't beat Tuesday $2 tapas and $15 bottles of wine.

Avalon - their duck bread is amazing. I am not a fan of duck, but this is just a must order on the menu -happy hour or not.
