I am hosting our Christmas Eve dinner this year. It has been a long lassting tradition of my family to have crab for our Christmas Eve dinner. I went to order it today from the Seattle Fish Market on California Ave but was a bit sticker shocked to say the least! Does anyone out there have a sercret fish market where you can pick up affordable delicious fresh crab for a Christmas dinner??

  2. Try Fisherman's terminal. I've seen signs there to buy it off the boats. I haven't been there recently though..

I'd give Mutual Fish on Rainier Ave a call. I don't know what their prices are like right now. And, QFC has a two for one on whole crabs right now which would be way too early for Christmas.

You could try the Pike Place Market for your crab.

BDG - my guess is the PP market will be expensive due to tourists, etc....

I'm interested in the post about Fisherman's terminal - if you go let me know what your experience is.

I'm going into Mashiko tonight for dinner and I'll ask them where the cheapest crab is and PM you if I hear anything that hasn't been mentioned.

Thanks everyone. The crab dinner will be around 6 :)

  8. You will probably have sticker shock anywhere you buy crab unless it is whole and off a boat or a native fisherman.

Restaurants buy it from Cash 'n Carry but the size might be a bit more than you want.

Then there is always the traditional method...

Just heard a commercial for crab at Fred Meyers.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  14. Yes - $2.99/lb for whole dungeness crab on sale at Fred Meyer - but it IS still two weeks before Christmas! Costco usually has picked dungeness for $20, I think it's a little more than a pound. It's a little salty so you have to rinse it, but otherwise a good deal and fresh!

I would actually head down to Uwajima. I always get my seafood there ranging from clams, oysters and crab. They never disappoint and plus you really get to pick it out for yourself. Try Mutual Fish also, they have great seafood as well!

*sings* "We've got crab legs, Sea Galley..!"

  17. I might be able to hook you up. We also have a Christmas tradition of King Crab for dinner. My sister, a past crabber has connections! We get it straight off the boat and might be able to spare. How many pounds are you thinking? We get it wholesale and will have a price when it lands. It is sooo tasty. We have it with prime rib and popovers. I'm hungry.

JL, Well there would be six of us; so I was thinking about five full crabs. Does that sound about right?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  19. We buy a box off of the boat that has 80 pounds of the big kick a** Alaskan King crab legs. I would think that 2 legs per person..he he. Steam for 3 minutes and yummy! Everybody always wants to come to my parents house for their famous "king Crab and prime rib dinner". The crab legs are large! But, since I'm from a Husky family I would need to double check if I can sell to a Coug.

Try Lucky Seafood 3217 Beacon Ave S if you don't mine doing your own boiling and cleaning. They have live crab in tanks and you pick your own. The price is usually under 3 bucks a pound.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  28. Any Asian market in White Center has live crab for great prices -- not to mention clams, oysters and lotsa whole fresh fish...

    Posted 3 years ago #
  29. "Crab Pusher" lol. I was just trying to do a random act of kindess for a stranger. Happy Holidays!

Instead of turkey on Thanksgiving, I always have crabs and I love them.

The best place to get crabs...in chinatown..cheap at $3.99/lb and they even clean for you.

Please invite me over. Eating crabs as a group is so much fun...forget about table manners...chow down the carcass.

    Fresh crabs ..the best.
I saute them with a little bit of curry powder..that it

    and I love the roe.

    again..invite me over

growingjade where in chinatown do you buy your crab?

    Posted 3 years ago #
  41. Hello, it's me the "crab pusher". A couple of people have asked if I can hook them up with crab so the scoop is I just got word that the crab boat is landing on Tuesday or Wednesday. The crab legs are Bristol Bay Red King Crab if you want to google. I've seen them for as much as 30 bucks a pound. These are running 17. Some places (sometimes Costco) will sell last seasons catch. But this is the good stuff! Send me a pm if you are interested.

LOL! Of course you will be invited. All I do is make sure the legs are warm and then melt butter and put in front of my mom.

  44. We have about 40lbs left of King Crab legs if anyone else is interested. We usually buy a 80lb box and this year it is 120lb's!! That's a lot of crab :)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  46. Yes, we have some left. Can you swing by on Weds. pm to pick it up?

Also, Keith I sent you a pm last week to see if you are still interested and it looks like you haven't seen the message yet. Are you still interested. I'm not overfished :)
