where does one purchase affordable quality furniture, such as a sofa? Not really interested in Macys, Pottery Barn, etc...but looking for interesting furniture that is well built and doesn't break the bank. No IKEA, no Sears, and not interested in going to a big discount warehouse and dealing with a hard sell. Not saying that these places aren't any good, I'm sure some of their furniture is fine, but I've already researched and am not going that route... it seems to me that all the large dept. stores have the same old boring stuff, any suggestions?

where to buy a sofa

I know you said no Macy's, but I have had great luck @ the Macys Outlet center in Southcenter. It's directly across the street from the main Macy's furniture showroom. You might find more interesting styles, colors, textures, or patterns there, and usually at a nice discount. The biggest downside is a limited delivery schedule and (I believe) all sales final.
I adore my leather sofa I bought there, and it is definitely not boring :)Posted 8 months ago # -
Not sure where the 'break the bank' line is, since it's different for everyone, but you might check out Bassett Furniture. They have a store in Tukwila and according to their website they're having a sale right now... A few years ago we needed to replace our inherited-from-Dad-1990's sofa and looked at many many many sofas. Finally walked in to Bassett and liked the options to customize to get what we wanted (number of cushions, type pillow back, feet, arms, etc.) It might have been a pricier than outlet or Costco but we got what we wanted and it's a very nice sofa. (they were even great with the 4-yo, gave her a balloon and a small stuffed Basset puppy and had coloring books and puzzles to keep her busy)

Have you tried Sleepers in Seattle? We bought our mattress there. The price was competitive with other stores, but the salesperson was nicer, and they agreed to deliver it for free, since we live nearby.

Like the previous person I don't know where your budget falls, but http://www.couchseattle.com/ is amazing. He can do all different levels of budget, and he works with the same factories as pottery barn, C&B, etc, but for much cheaper. He also does custom design work, so if you're unusually tall and need a full size bed seat depth, or very very small and need a skinny, short couch, he can make it happen!
Check out his work on the website, and give him a call - I think the showroom may run on appt only or limited-ish hours. I could be wrong.

I second the recommendatons for Couch (on Western) and Modern Design Sofas. FYI, Crate & Barrel is having a 15% off sofa/upholstery sale right now.
Capers in the Alaska Junction has great sofas from Cisco Bros. (the greenest sofa manufacturer) as well as Lee Industries (also eco-friendly). They have a wide variety of interesting and customizable models that you can order, but they're not exactly budget friendly. To me, budget-friendly means around $1K, which is hard to find. I'm hankering after the charcoal velvet Ditte sofa at Anthropologie, but that ain't gonna happen.

Have you checked out Kasala? They have an outlet behind Krispee Kreme on 1st.

Redblack - I think I just found our new living room sofa, thanks for that link!
I also would check out the Kasala outlet, we picked up a great, modern, leather sofa for our tv room for a really reasonable price awhile back.
