I like our mayor, and I voted for him. (ballot's in the mail!) I think he has done a lot for this city; he has been effective, and even those who don't like his style will likely concede that point. I am curious if he went to college in WA state, or back East? Ivy league? I can't find this info. Anyone know?

Greg Nickels is the oldest of six children born to Robert C. and Kathie Nickels. Born in Chicago, Greg has lived in Seattle since age six. A graduate of Seattle Prep, he began his public service career at age 19 with the City of Seattle while attending the University of Washington. Greg served as legislative assistant to then-City Councilmember Norm Rice from 1978 to 1987. In 1987, Greg was elected to a seat on the King County Council where he served for 14 years.

Yes, I have read something similar to the wiki piece, but didn't believe it. I think I was looking for confirmation that he did graduate. I suppose it doesn't make a lot of difference at this stage of the game, it's just.....surprising. Certainly not the norm, but it is possible to succeed without graduating from college...

I am surprised this hasn't become an issue. Usually things like this get brought up, with a negative slant attached.

I'm surprised that people are surprised. This has been known for a long time; and not something that the mayor has tried to refute or downplay. It is what it is. Unlike most employees of the City who's job requirements include a college degree; the position of Mayor does not have that requirement. I don't believe that we would find many elected postions with that requirement.
I don't know if that says something about college degrees or our elected officials.Posted 2 years ago # -
I'm surprised that you're surprised that I am surprised. I'm not originally from here so most items about candidates history is news to me. Things like this typically end up tossed in during the mud slinging phase of campaigns.

Well,I was born and raised in Seattle, and have been a big Nickels supporter since his county council days, and I didn't know.
