6:30 and still nobody except two kids who were kinda rude. Is everyone just doing the daytime Junction thing these days? We're pretty new to WS and up to our ears in candy.

we had a pretty steady stream up in Arbor Heights

typing that must have been the kiss of death. no more here for awhile. damn it all.

Just (7ish) had our first two groups in Delridge neighborhood. Probably 12 kids altogether. I have noticed that the To'Ters start later than when I was a pup.

Depends on where you are. In our Upper Fauntleroy neighborhood, they're usually pretty scarce, but that's probably got a lot to do with our oddly laid-out neighborhood too.
In some of the more central and northern WS neighborhoods where houses are spaced and placed more uniformly, with small front yards, lining cozy streets that stretch for blocks, I've seen huge crowds in years gone by. Gotta go up to Skeleton Theatre in the next hour and expecting to see tons in that part of North Admiral.
Meantime, here we have had ... ONE, as of 7:25 pm. I think I hear voices in the distance ...

We've had just a few more. Pretty light I'd say. Please, come rescue me from the mini-snickers. I grow weaker by the moment.

We had dribbled down to 5 last year after several rip-roaring earlier years. Tonight? We're over 50 so far!
Posted 2 years ago # -
Wow, glad I got that mortgage to buy candy for our neigbhorhood! We've had 58 already and it's only 8:15pm! Last year we got 77. Anyone want to donate their candy bowl to the Admiral area? ;-)

So, how late do kids usually trick-or-treat around the Badmiral area?
Posted 2 years ago # -
"Badmiral"???? Is that the spooky name for this place at Halloween? If so, niiiiiiiice!!! It's slowed way down now at 8:25 but for a Sat night. I would have figured longer...eh, more for me!

I just had a couple of kids come up to my door. They had the "end of the night" strategy - hoping to score on candy. It worked on me. Both went away with a handful of candy.

In "Upper Alki" we had two groups - a total of five kids. We have leftover Reese's, KitKats and Snickers. I wish some of those "end of the night" kids would come by.

We had a lot more this year than last year on Genessee Hill.
Posted 2 years ago # -
we had about the same amount as last year. 20 ish kids. in 7 or so groups. think alot of people are going to parties instead
Posted 2 years ago # -
We didn't have as many as in other years, but we probably had 40 kids in our SeaView neighborhood. We actually got rid of all of our candy....only to have our six year old bring in a haul of it. :-)
Posted 2 years ago # -
We actually had more come this year at our house in Fauntlee Hills. Not a lot though. I counted 11 groups and a total of about 35 kids.

Gatewood..next to nobody :(((

I have no idea how many we had. Trick or treaters really upset the dogs so i put a bin of snickers by the mailbox and lit it with a flashlight. it lasted less than 20 minutes. We didn't see who took it, but they took the bin, the candy and the flashlight:(
they had to have had a knife handy since i had ziptied everything to the chain link fence.
trick or treat was both at my house:(

JoB,
Do you think Mcginn or Mallahan did it? My hunch it was that x anchor woman Hutchinson!
Ran out of candy at my house, at least 100 came by 3x's I've ever seen. Weather couldn't been better.

50 to 70 here. Some of them tall enough to be high school basketball players.
I recognized most as neighborhood kids many of whom I had fixed their bikes.
a handful of fruit gummies left out of 3 cash n carry big bags.

dunno...
I wish there was a political motive:( it just made me sad.
i guess if i want to do halloween next year i will sit by the gate...

We've never gotten any in Highland Park in the decade I've lived here...

At many houses our daughter was only the 3rd tricker or treater so people poured the candy into her bag. Glad we did the Juntion funtion, what great costumes we saw my favorite was Colonel Sanders, the chicken and the egg.
We had only 3 trick or treaters all night.

Irukandji....HA, that was too funny, wish I had thought of that! Nothin' like pulling a bit o' Robin Hood on Halloween! Hehehehe

Best Halloween in years here: I decided to make homemade cookies instead of handing out commercial treats, recognizing that some possibly-large percentage would get thrown away. But most of the kids I see are with their parents, and most are from our neighborhood, so I put a sticker on the packet "Made by your neighbor", my first name, address, and ingredients (for allergy reference). I'm pleased to report these were very well-received; most parents and children seemed not to be buying into the Halloween "dangerous treat" paranoia, and gave enthusiastic thanks. So I feel I did something to reclaim Halloween.
All in all, we had 58 trick-or-treaters, almost all costumed with some effort, and more creative and home-made costumes than in the recent past. I'm happy.

We had very few trick or treaters in our Westwood neighborhood. Very disappointing. We only saw older kids come to the door; and I was fine with that. They were polite and had feeble attempts at costumes. When the last ones came by I dumped the remaining candy between their three bags.
What I didn't get to hand out was wine! We buy a box of wine every year and pass out cups of vino to parents who accompany their children. Sometimes in past years we have had repeat visitors...usually prompted by the parent wanting another sip. Not this year. We didn't see one adult. I'm looking for recipes which require wine; lotsa wine!Posted 2 years ago # -
We live near high point and had maybe 10 trick or treaters. We were begging for more. We now have way too much candy left. I was generous handing it out but would have been way more generous had I known that was all we'd get.
Posted 2 years ago # -
We had somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 kids. We handed out 40 full size candy bars, and two bags of snack sized bars, plus about 5 boxes of "movie theater" non-chocolate treats.
datamuse, what part of Highland Park are you in? We're near Trenton and 16th, and it was a steady stream all night. Most of the kids were really sweet and polite and said thank you. There was the occasional one who was grabby or pushy, and one who said "I don't like any of these. Do you have anything else?" Hrmph! :-)

In the 4 years I've lived in West Seattle, in 2 different places, we have yet to have a trick-or-treater come to our door. The first year we bought treats, and the next 3 years we've bought nothing and it's never been needed. The only thing I can think of is that in both homes I've lived on busy streets (Delridge and now Fauntleroy) and maybe parents don't want their kids on the busy streets that they'll have to cross.
I was on the phone with my sister in New York on Saturday when her doorbell rang. She came back to the phone and said that 2 little kids were there, dressed up, held out their bags, and didn't say a word - as if they just expected you to hand over the candy without asking, and without saying thank you when they got it. The only thing they did say was "can we have more?" Nice.

it takes a village to raise a child...
it doesn't take much to remind kids that they need to have manners to play at your house.. even on Halloween.
Posted 2 years ago # -
So true JoB! We have a hard fast rule in our household on showing people good manners, and yes that does include Halloween night of saying Trick or trick and thank you!
