When's the last time you laughed at yourself?

Here's another question in my "just because I'm curious and have some extra time" series.

When's the last time you did something silly that you eventually had to laugh at yourself?
For me it was last week when, for the first time, I took the Charlestown hill going west bound. I'd never driven that way before so as I was approaching it I started getting worried because I still wasn't seeing the bottom (kinda like when you reach the top of a rollercoaster). For a second I thought I was driving off the side of a cliff. Right before I went over I said out loud "Did they forget to finish this road?!? What the (censored)?!"

  2. a few months ago I was at the stoplight on Fauntleroy and California going east on Fauntleroy. The left turn light to turn North on Fauntleroy turned green. Not my light to go straight. But, I went anyway, and honked at the perplexed driver making a perfectly safe, legal turn in front of me. I felt like the biggest doofus on the planet. I had to laugh - the person I was honking at must have thought I was a lunatic.

  4. only every day...

when i search for the milk in the microwave
or find my lunch there while i am making dinner
or arrive at the dentist in my slippers
or forget that my shopping list is now on my phone
or search every hiding spot in the house for my glasses only to find they are on my head..

    or...

  5. Yup. Pretty much every day. I've decided the ability to laugh at yourself is a great life skill. Especially when you have teenagers who never let anything slide.

Why am I looking in the fridge? Why did I come in this room? Why isn't there any traffic on my work commute today? (because I'm early/late) And, every time I spend an inordinate time looking for something everywhere it's not supposed to be, when all along it's been in its proper place.

    A philosophical question:

    Why am I here?

    An equally philosophical answer:

Because I am not all there.

Laughter at self is therefore frequent, although it may be preceded by a little cussing ... until the silliness of the situation and its relative unimportance to the universe become abundantly clear.

about a week before Halloween I was walking EmmyJane and behind some bushes we see a giant rat/rabid racoon/who knows what! We stop in fear afraid that its going to attack us and then we hear laughing... a lady picks up the "rat" and pulls back a little hood and out pops a cute little dog dressed up as a rat for Halloween.

    thanks for starting this thread.

at the mall this week, my just turned teenager grandson was offended because i laughed at the nanook of the north hats he thought were cool... and didn't quite buy my explanation.. that i laughed because i found them delightful...

but i did find them... and him ... delightful.

if laughter is a survival tool, then delight is the payoff... the delight of the first run on a new sled hill... of seeing a whale breach in the sound... of turning onto an unknown road and finding mystery and thrills...

i think we laugh with ourselves then...
more than just laughing at ourselves.

I am going to go find something unexpected and fun to do today...
or maybe it will find me:)
