You have got to be kidding me. How do horses have the right of way in the street over cars now? I was watching cars trying to navigate around the horse wagon full of people. There is a huge accident waiting to happen here. So amongst all of the pedestrians, cyclist' buses, water taxi shuttles, now horses trotting something's going to happen and it isn't going to be pretty. Dead horses? How are people in their cars supposed to navigate thru all this BS. What a headache it has become on Sunday's in the Junction. And another thing about familie's going to the market, keep your kids close to you at all times like you do with your dogs. Better yet, use leashes on them too. Talk about out of control kids.

Maybe people in cars could reduce their sense of entitlement and learn to share street space?

Last time I checked, the roads in the junction 9and most other places in West Seattle/America/world) were most recently paved for the better accommodation of CARS. Not horses. I am not anti-horse, but the junction streets were made for cars. Its not a sense of entitlement, it is a realistic look on the situation.

So should to horses be on the sidewalk? Using logic like, cars use roads, so roads must be for cars is a common mistake, but if you can handle complex concepts like say community events ( HORSEY RIDES! ), you might be able to understand it.

geez, folks, lighten up. You were inconvenienced for how long...5 minutes maybe? aww, gee, how terrible that must be. Slow down, enjoy the sun, the day, and please, please, please stop thinking that you're the only important person in the world.
Entitlement? Realistic? The horses were there for a few hours...lighten up...it's not like they're taking over every day, for goodness sake :)
Jiggers...now you know "what a headache the junction has become on Sunday"...so...advice...don't go there from 10-2...it's a big world...bet you could go around it ;-)

Sorta off-topic, but if a horse does a #2 on the public road, aren't they liable/responsible for cleanup?

Draft-mule wagon, to be precise. Offered a grand total of maybe four times a year. But if you have a complaint, you can contact the Junction Association - I'm not a hundred percent sure whether they paid for this or the Neighborhood Farmers' Market Alliance, but the occasion was "Live Local Day," which is one of WSJA's slogans. And remember that if you want to be somewhere that cars have precedence, avoid Alki from Alki/63rd to Harbor/California Way from 9 am-5 pm NEXT Sunday, which is the occasion-formerly-known-as-Car-Free-Day.

lazybeard - At my barn we HAVE to return in our cars to pick up any manure our horses leave behind if they happen to go while off the property. I would NEVER ride near the junction though. That does sound like a bad accident waiting to happen. Yikes...

My horse is house-trained. Finally.

i thought it was charming.. we passed them this morning after having brunch and i thought they added a bit of festivity to the day...
i don't think i would want them there all the time.. though carriage rides are one of the things we typically do on vacation...
maybe on Alki:))))

I'm with Jan. What's worse, horse or mule pea and apples or radiator liquids and oil on the ground? Granted, I do not want to go back to equine oriented travel versus motorized travel.
My question is, if cars have horsepower what do horses have?
Personally, I think it might have been a flashback from FORD to the original mustang. Think it will sell?. True Value will have to start selling more hay and feed if that is the case. I wonder what the MPG rating is? Will they fall under cap and trade industries? When they produce too much carbon will we need to downsize them to Shetland Pony's?
YEE HA PARDNER. GIDDY UP

I was at True Value with my grandkids when we saw them go by. We were so excited, that we ran right on down the street to go for a ride. It reminded me of the West Seattle That I knew!!! Loved those days...

I feel sorta compelled to point out that carriage rides in the summer and during the holidays are a regular feature downtown and in Pioneer Square, both of which have quite a bit more traffic than the Junction. Somehow, everyone seems to manage.

There are roads going AROUND the Junction, you know. The wagon rides were announced ahead of time; you knew they'd be there.

Sorry but roads are for cars.

Car drivers are usually mistaken in that way. Like you mentioned in another thread, common sense and courtesy aren't terribly common.

I am afraid of horses and out-of-control children (and their parents), but I love farmer's markets! What's a girl to do? WAHHHHHHH!
Why oh why aren't the two blocks on California between Oregon and Edmonds pedestrian (and horse) only? Regardless of the day and time--it is a cluster trying to drive through there. But I am sure the residents on nearby streets would complain.Posted 3 years ago #
