Does anyone have news on what illness forced the shutdown of Westside Import Repair and are they planning on re-opening?

Hi, I am his neighbor and Gary the owner has cancer and kept the place open as long as her could, He probably won't reopen. I am sad they did great work.

  3. oh, that is such a shame. They were so good. I hope that he beats this. Cancer sucks in all forms, devastating to people , families, lives. :(

Oh no, I hadn't heard this. Gary and Carl have been so kind to me, keeping my old car running.

Thanks celeste17. I had heard that Gary was not well but it seemed like Carl was keeping it going. Give Gary our regards. Do you happen to know what Carl is doing?

I heard Carl is moving to Eastern Washington (I think) to live near his in-law and will be working at a golf course doing maintenance on their vehicles. I talked with Gary and his housemate Barbara yesterday and he just had finished chemo last week (throat area) and he was doing better.

I know Vanessa is working at O'Reilly's on Roxbury and she is keeping her hand in repairs. So you might want to talk to her about repairs on your car.

Wow, these have been my go-to guys for 25 years. I can't imagine owning a car without them.

I agree Velvet Bulldog. Carl always managed to have the complete history of repairs to our cars in his head - things we couldn't even remember. He and Gary are going to be hard to replace.

Good to hear that Gary is doing better and hopefully we will see him back again soon.

I was also saddened by the news but there may be a glimmer of hope, a sign on the door said the shop would re-open in a different location in Nov.
