Can anyone suggest a competent reasonable local veterinarian specializing in dogs, specifically my Shih-apso? Please include specific likes, thank you in advance.

West Seattle Veterinarian Recommendation?

Well, I can't speak to dogs specifically, because we have cats, but we love Lien Animal Clinic on Alaska. I see lots of dogs visiting there. We usually see Dr. Kraabel, but all of the vets are good, and so is the staff. They're on top of latest treatments, willing to discuss different options, and are open to suggestions, including natural medicine. Everyone there truly loves animals, and they are kind and compassionate. They do lots of things for rescue groups. They also have recently received a certification for the practice, the exact title of which escapes me now, but it's not easy to get. I highly recommend them.

I used to work at Lien before having my own practice. They are the best! Highly skilled doctors, very compassionate staff, and a high commitment to continuing education. The owners really care about the animals and the clients and you can feel that in everyone who works there. They recently became AAHA certified. Dr. Kraabel recently did an amazing surgery on my own dog who had to have a kidney and adrenal gland removed that was cancerous. It was an extremely difficult surgery that few veterinarians would have been able to do including myself. Our dog is alive today because of him:-)

I also recommend lien clinic. We have two dogs and are very happy with the lien clinic. They are very friendly, responsive to my numerous annoying questions and finally their prices seem very reasonable.

I fourth the rec for Lien Animal Clinic. We take our dog and two cats there - I have always felt they were very caring, capable and reasonably priced.

My favorite vets work at West Seattle Animal Hospital. I am reluctant to publicize which are my favorites, partly for selfish reasons.

A second for West Seattle Animal Hospital. They've been my boy kitties' vets for 10+ years. I had to euthanize my 19-year old kitty over the holidays, and they were absolutely terrific (even asking me if I wanted the bright lights in the exam room turned off when we gave him his final injection). They worked hard with me over the past two months trying to stabilize my boy, and were always there to calmly and compassionately address with my sometimes hysterical calls and concerns. Couldn't ask for better care.

I'm another West Seattle Animal Hospital fan. They see our dog and two cats. We couldn't be happier with them. I've seen just about every vet there (I prefer Dr. McReynolds) and all of them are wonderful with my animals. The staff is also amazing. They are very organized and their hours are great as they are open everyday.
We did go to Greentree by Shoofly Pie. Nice doctor, but seemed very expensive. We asked for a shot record of our dog and they didn't have all the records written down in the chart. That's when we knew it was time to move on.

There was a long forum thread about this already. You might want to do a search.

Dr. McKim at Greentree has taken kind, gentle, thoughtful, sensible care of our feline family members since we moved to West Seattle. He doesn't jump to conclusions, he patiently explains as much as I request.... he really thinks about what he's doing, and he has long experience.

Thank you kindly for your recommendations, I am leaning towards the Lien Animal Clinic since they appear to be "dog" friendly. Your inputs are invaluable. We all share a love for our four legged friends and I sincerely appreciate your thoughts and compassion. Happy New Year and I will share my experience with Coby's new physician. :)

The folks at Lien have taken fabulous care of my dog. Love them. I've had dogs at various clinics in the area for more than a decade and Lien is the one I've settled on.
