RANT-I was in the West Seattle Liquor Store on California Ave on November 5, 2009 at 1035am. An older man walked in, slipped and fell on their wet floor. Bottles were knocked down, nothing broke. NOT one employee offered to help him--
he was not even acknowledged. The manager ran across the store to put up a "Slippery when wet sign". I asked the clerk about their lack of concern. She became rude and snotty. I returned my purchase and left. I won't be back to that shop.

    That's too bad.

Unfortunately though the state has a monopoly on booze and it's not like not patronizing their shop is going to have any effect on their business.

There's no incentive for them to care about customer service. (Though in fairness I usually find the workers there to be pretty nice.)

Did the older man ask for help?

If not, I suspect he had already visited the store several times that day and didn’t want to alert the liquor store staff that he was drunk because then they wouldn’t sell him booze.

Also, as a state run facility the employees are probably trained not to react in any way to imply guilt or liability for these types of situations. Personal injury lawsuits against the state (fraudulent or not) cost us by increased liquor taxes and other taxes.

Too bad you didn’t hang around to watch the whole thing play out.

I called the complaint to the manager's attention when I was looking at him and speaking with him. The manager saw and heard what happened.

I can shop at a different liguor store. I can buy liquor on my trips to Canada. I don't need to shop at that store.

I saw the WHOLE thing. He was a well dressed man and was not drunk. He did not ask for help, he was embarassed.
