West Seattle Couple Raising Funds to Publish Cookbook

  1. My wife and I, residents of Sunrise Heights and frequent shoppers at the WS Farmer's Market, are co-authoring a unique cookbook called "Meat/No
Meat: A Cookbook for the Biculinary." Like many couples in Seattle, we consist of one vegetarian and one omnivore, so we thought it would be
nifty to have a cookbook with two versions of each recipe, one for each of us.

We're trying to raise some seed money to replace some aging cooking equipment on Kickstarter:

Since Seattle is such a vegetarian-friendly city, and West Seattle is such a vegetarian-friendly neighborhood with such a great food culture, we think our book will do super well here.

    From the description:
    ----------------------
"Emily is a vegetarian. Jeremy, most decidedly, is not. Nonetheless, when he won her over with his vegetarian spaghetti pie, they began a culinary collaboration resulting in a magnificent menu that can be enjoyed by vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.

Instead of many vegetarian recipes, which simply substitute fake meat products for the meat found in standard concoctions, the recipes in Meat/No Meat are designed to duplicate the edible experience as closely as possible for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. We
won't be using expensive, sometimes hard-to-find fake meat you need to buy at the store; instead, we will be creating tasty substitutes with
ingredients found in most major supermarkets.

Likewise, we will not just make one recipe with sausage, one without. Instead, we will be utilizing other ingredients, ensuring that the
vegetarian option is as rich in flavor as the meat version.

Our philosophy is simple: two people with two different food philosophies can eat the same meal for dinner, together, in the same house, and both can taste equally delicious."

Please drop by and have a look, and maybe consider becoming a backer!

What a great idea! I was never into that weird fake meat, looks and tastes so unappetizing, like real meat. I have to admit I do love the smell of frying bacon, is there any way to replace that?

  3. Thanks, roundthesound! We've got a pretty awesome recipe for veggie bacon that uses eggplant and bacon salt:

For the book, we're going to be doing away with the bacon salt part and using a different method, but I can't give away too many of our secrets just yet. :)

  4. What a great idea, Jeremy! When I saw the subject line, I immediately thought "I wonder if they're familiar with Kickstarter," so I'm glad that you did.

I'm vegetarian (nearly vegan) and my husband is definitely NOT a vegetarian. I love the concept that you're going to focus on "regular" ingredients and not a lot of expensive, specialty items that are unfamiliar and intimidating to some. Or just taste plain bad. :)

I will check out your Kickstarter campaign, and look forward to your book!

  5. Thanks, Sue!

We're always finding "Biculinary" Couples, which is why we think this idea might just fly, if we can come up with the backers on Kickstarter.
