West Seattle Canucks Fans?

  1. Go Canucks Go! Any other West Seattle folk have a favorite place to watch the game? I only know of The Wingdome and the Brewery that have been showing the game, but I wanted to know what other options were out there.

I apologize to any Westwood fans that could hear me screaming during the game this evening... But WOOHOO!!

  2. Game's always on at our house - go Canucks and GO B's!!! (OK I'm a displaced MA person) - Canucks & Bruins for Stanley Cup what could be better?

BTW martinis, grilled pancetta wrapped sea scallops and arugula salad with the game...who needs to go anywhere else???

  3. JWWS... I think we need a Canucks Fans Of West Seattle Support Group! And I'm thinking you're right about the Bruins. I think we'll take 'em though. The Sedins have finally showed up to the post season so I'm feeling hopeful...

WTF!!! Ok only 1st period but I seriously thought Canucks would sweep - Luongo's reverting to his bad habits from last series )- holding good thoughts - still lots of hockey time (until the B's meet them). ;-)

Tonight's entree: Eggplant parmesan over linguini and hockey, hockey, hockey (not eggplant over hockey)
OK we're going to at least 5....

  7. We ended up at EBB tonight and JWWS, couldn't agree more. The Sharks were out there playing some dirty hockey and it was unbecoming, but we were lucky to stop the bleeding when we did. They just wore Luongo down, and we all know how he gets when it's 2-0 or worse, he tends to just shut down. When he's good he's great but when he slips, he falls hard.

I was hoping for a sweep too, BUT if the Canucks can lock down the series back in Vancouver, I think that's a plus. I'm practically using voodoo to ensure that they use Schneider on Sunday - what're you thinking about that?

Eager is just terrible! But I think it's obviously the way that the coaches are teaching them to play though. Thornton's ridiculous taunting of Kes makes me think that they're playing scared and they're trying to take key players out either by penalty time or injury... and that ain't right.

I hate watching those polite Sedins getting shoved around too. You can tell they are fish outta water with this cut-throat stuff...

  8. Cait,

I think the Canucks will pull it out - it's only 1 game and they almost climbed back in - just too little too late. I think they'll probably stick with Luongo and as far as the "politeness" vs."dirty" playing goes well it is hockey!!

    Go B's!!!

Vancouver will be happy with a split, and then bring it home. It'll be interesting to see if game 4 is called tighter, some reckless checking going on. Tim Thomas is looking hot for the B's, if they make the final, it'll be a good one (against VAN). Of course, having last years Cup winner in net wouldn't hurt either (Niemi w/CHI). I hope somehow this translates to the NW and builds momentum for a local team some day *sigh*

It's nice to see that there are some other Canucks fans out there! Huge game tomorrow. I'm hoping the refs do a better job than they have for the last two games, and that with the early start Luongo doesn't get injured. I'd actually be in favor of starting Schneider, although I can't imagine that happening. Let's see some discipline and a bit of killer instinct from the Canucks tomorrow, and try to wrap this series up earlier than we've been able to so far.

  12. 3 goals in 1:55!! That was AMAZING!

    Posted 1 year ago #
  13. Cait,
I agree BUT (and I'm showing my age here) I remember the 70's and the B's vs (albeit new) Canucks - 3 in 20 seconds...A slice of history..

"Ed Westfall won the Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 1970 and 1972. He earned an assist on Bobby Orr's famous Stanley Cup-winning goal in 1970 and also scored the second of the three fastest goals in NHL history, when the Bruins scored three goals in 20 seconds in a 1971 game with the Vancouver Canucks"

Gotta hope it's Bruins and Canucks for the final - Canucks seem to have a lock - holding out hope for my B's who sat on their lead yesterday and learned the sad consequences....

  14. I'm definitely hoping for Canucks vs. Bruins too - that'll be a good one!

This VAN team is certainly enjoyable to watch. Great passing angles, quick and fast. Hoping they end their Cup quest with a victory this time, they have been oh so close before. Going back to the Broduer days here. Of course, I was a Totems fan one day long ago too :)

    Posted 1 year ago #
  16. OK - it was not pretty but B's pulled it out (thank you Tim Thomas - who wears Gerry Cheevers #30 - why is this not retired?? - another ? - (see "behind the mask") - but what a great goalie to honor the #30!). I'm still holding out hopes for B's vs Canucks!!!

Oh yeah and go Canucks tomorrow - end it!

    Posted 1 year ago #
  17. They're gonna stick a fork in it for sure! I make a habit of posting ridiculous "Chuck Norris Facts" style statements on Facebook during games but about Roberto Luongo to keep his morale up. So far it's been working! Very few of them are appropriate for WSB Forums lol.

I'm just excited to watch some edge-of-your-seat hockey tomorrow... GO CANUCKS GO!

  18. I AM DYING OVER HERE!!! AAAAAAAAH!!! Double overtime?!?!?!

  19. Can they finish it up on Thursday?

    Posted 1 year ago #
  20. Looks like they decided to finish it up tonight! Kevin Bieksa is a winner no matter how Don Cherry pronounces his name!

BIEKSA!!!! That was a crazy goal, but after all of the weird behind the net goals that have been scored against us, it's about time we got a lucky one!

    3 down, 1 to go.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  22. I would go on about how they never should have gotten to OT because that icing call was bogus, but then I would have to cop to all the penalties the sharks got away with in OT. Kind of a bummer of a way for it all to go down, especially the game winner, but I didn't really have a dog in that fight, so at least it was pretty darn good hockey all around.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  23. Also a Canucks fan in West Seattle... been looking for places that show the games, so it's good to know there's a couple. Not that my schedule allows me to try to catch them very often.

I was fortunate enough to go to Tuesday's game. The partying in downtown Vancouver afterwards was amazing.

  24. OK Cait here we go! Great Game 7 for East Finals!!! Did we predict it or what?
    .
B's and Canucks - awesome!! Although I've been a Canucks fan for the 20+ years I've lived in PNW - I was born and raised in B' town (think Bobby Orr/Phil Esposito/Derek Sanderson era) so my heart is with the B's but no matter who wins - I can't lose!
    .
    Seattle needs a hockey franchise!!!

    Posted 12 months ago #
  25. Looks like the first game in the finals will be broadcast on the CBC at 4:30 on Wednesday the 8th. I am expecting Don Cherry to be over the top, times 2!

Um go B's. Can't give up my Boston roots, and the Celics, um, disappointed.

  27. jwws - WOOHOO! Thought of you yesterday when I saw the Bruins win! We're gonna have to earn that cup it looks like ;-)

Gina - any bets on suit color/pattern? Or how many times he mispronounces "Bieksa" and gets away with it? LOL love that guy...

Finally... Nena... I am SO jealous! I'm toying with the idea of going up just to watch on the jumbotrons! Add Talarico's to your list as well. EBB and Wingdome were stoked to have us watch the game there too... awesome experiences all around.

    Charla - I'll pretend I didn't hear that. JK :)

Dec'd out the car today... let's just say if you see it, you'll know what I mean. :)

Thngs about the Canucks games that give me goosebumps:

    - U2 opening
    - Stick boy when Canucks enter ice
    - The fact the crowd gets into singing their National Anthem (will never see that in the states)
    - A Stanley Cup!

    Posted 11 months ago #
  31. - A Stanley Cup!

Those goosebumps are a little misplaced, because I'm doing the math here, and yes, the number of Stanley Cups Vancouver has won is...wait for it...Zero! I do like seeing teams getting their first championship, though, so good luck to Vancouver on that note. Still...

Go Bruins. Those creepy twins are just...creepy.

    - The fact the crowd gets into singing their National Anthem (will never see that in the states)

The way the fans of at home games for Canadian teams sing along with the National Anthem is pretty awesome, no question. That's their tradition. Tradition in the states has always been to be silently respectful while the National Anthem is playing anywhere (with a little bit of getting into it during the last few lines). Canada has their way, we have ours, both thoroughly respectful.

Having said that, have you ever seen the anthem before a Blackhawks game? There are people who think the fans are TOO excited, and that it's rude. Jes cain't please nobody, no mo'.

    Posted 11 months ago #
  32. I don't know. The Sedin twins are a lot of why I got interested in hockey and the team in the first place. They're kind of weird looking, but talented, very humble, and, um, adorably Swedish.

I really love the singing along with the anthem too, though it does make me feel a little awkward at a game between a Canadian and U.S. team. I can't sing along to our anthem and it feels a little odd to try and sing theirs when I'm not Canadian. Not that I can remember the lyrics.

Anyway, I'm excited for this series. I can't muster any hate for the Bruins, either. We'll just have to see how it plays out. Go, Canucks, go!

    Posted 11 months ago #
  33. The Sedins are kinda creepy - but they are so awesome!! I think it's our year, Andy! This is going to be an awesome series!

    Posted 11 months ago #
  34. OK Cait,

Canucks got this one (barely - or would that be Bruin Bearly) - but I still think it's going to be a great series - Burrow's finger biting aside -REALLY..REALLY man up Canucks and don't drop to the dirty fighting depths. GO B's!!!!

  36. I learned the Canadian National Anthem at T-Bird games in the old Arena. After a few months of games against Kamloops, Victoria, Brandon, Swift Current, Moose Jaw and Medicine Hat, you kind of got the hang of it!

I'm really enjoying the Sedins. I wonder if they have a train set at home. (Remember Slapshot?)

Andy, I don't remember saying they had won 1 cup, so I don't understand your "math" either??? Its about anticipation! hth.

Now, for my next favorite game: Hockey Player or Vodka?

Got it. A little Yankee's spill over which is always ok ;) I'd be cheering the B's if not for the C's, having spent some time in NE.

Best Hockey Bar name at North Station? The Penalty Box, of course!

OK, no googling, hockey player or vodka: Pushkarev or Putinka?

    Posted 11 months ago #
  40. I'll google after. Because I must.

    Pushkarev: Hockey player
    Putinka: Vodka

If that's the way the game goes.

  41. Gina - my friends and I like to joke that the Sedins still share a room with twin beds and stay up late and night talking hockey. And... sometimes they prank call Tim Thomas from their Mickey Mouse phone. I just love them! LOL.

GREAT game yesterday and I can't wait to see the rest of this series, I think it's gonna be a nail biter for sure. As for the finger biting - they were playing pretty dirty too! How was 6 kidney shots to Daniel Sedin with a stick not a penalty?! And they have those ridiculous gloves on anyway... Plus... it's hockey... not tea party, right?

    Posted 11 months ago #
  42. It is hockey - fighting is allowed, biting is NOT! And what about the high stick shots to Chara's face - gotta reach high to do that "by accident" ;-). Looking forward to Saturday!

    Posted 11 months ago #
  43. I dunno about that one... is it technically biting with those huge gloves? And is the bite confirmed or is it just Bergeron not being able to hang with the big boys? LOL JK...

    Posted 11 months ago #
  44. Biting must be a new problem since the invention of mouth guards. Gumming your opponent just doesn't have the same ring to it.

    Andy: winner!

  46. Well, no suspension. The league didn't think Burrows ate enough to be charged for it. Finger food really should be free.

Guess Borrows wasn't too "hungry" tonight at least not for Lucic's fingers.......LOL
