   Hi, anyone out there know how I could learn sign here in W.Seattle in the evenings or weekends? I was thinking of a place where people might be practicing that I could go to and learn. What are other people doing to learn?

   I took a few classes at Seattle Central CC a few years ago. The classes were at nite. Maybe South Seattle CC has the same thing. They were non-credit so they were much cheaper than for-credit classes. Good luck!

   I know in the past there have been ASL study group meetings at Abbondanza Pizzeria, but don't know if they are still happening or not. My understanding is that they were groups of students already enrolled in classes at one of the local community colleges, not sure which one.

   Seattle Central CC has an interpreter training program; you might call them and see if they can give you any WS resources. http://seattlecentral.edu/programs/interpreter/index.php
   Also, when Abbondanza Pizzeria opened, I remember the publicity mentioning that the owner (or someone associated with the business) is deaf and that ASL is spoken there. I have noticed lots of flying hands there when I go by. When I worked regularly with interpreters, I noticed that a fair number lived in WS.

   My daughter learned to sign at Seattle Central CC. Excellent ASL program there.
   But...maybe you could find someone proficient in ASL to tutor you. You could at least learn common phrases??????
   It sounds like Abbondanza is the place to start, though.

   Try Lyn Wiley, she was teaching classes last summer but not enough people were able to continue to be cost effective.
