Does anyone know why? I drove past at 8 this morning and it looked like there was a line of burned out flares that had been there for a while. Hope everyone was ok, if it turned out to be an accident!

  2. If it was, no one was hurt because there's nothing on the 911 log.

The wind kicked up about 5 am. I suspect some branches are down here and there - given the greenbelt's proximity to the intersection, wonder if that had anything to do with it.

  3. Maybe. It might be worth mentioning that we had a power outage at our home in Highland Park sometime between one a.m. and five a.m.; we were asleep but I woke up and saw the clock was blinking. Maybe a branch hit a line or a transformer blew or something.

  4. We're on our way down to look, after getting a phone call indicating it's still closed. (Update) Ah - the power outage may be it. I noted a flicker up here at about 2 am:

Looking at the handy-dandy new City Light map, there are a few "customers" out in that area and it's attributed to car vs. pole.

This was mentioned on King 5 news this morning at 8:30 or so; I was actually surprised to see no mention of it here on WSB.
I can't find any mention of it on their site now, but yes, it was a car vs. power pole incident early this morning, and it knocked out power to several thousand customers.

  6. I have combed the aforementioned 911 logs and not a peep. If nobody texts or calls us about something big, they're usually pretty reliable, and I was up till 6 am. City Light didn't say thousands at any point - they have a tweet from about 5 am saying four customers in White Center -

Nothing on their Power Lines site, which always mentions major outages

But yes, once in an extremely rare while, for the 100 times we have something you'll never see on citywide media, they will have something first, and if you ever see that, I implore you to please consider calling or texting us at the 24-hour line 206-293-6302. This morning, I was up till 6 dealing with all manner of ridiculousness but none of this was on the scanner; the early watch usually picks right up after that, but he slept in because that crud that's been going around was trying to smack him (I am the only person in the house who hasn't had it).

  7. P.S. We put it on the home page a few hours ago and have been over to Highland Park Way twice to check on it. As of 12:35 pm, still closed. Adding a photo momentarily. Major City Light action about a block up the hill from West Marginal.

Aww, WSB I wasn't trying to knock your reporting at all! Just saying I was a bit surprised it wasn't here. It was early on a Sunday and the call of caffeine distracted me from giving it enough thought to actually alert the WSB team. Sounds like the King 5 story was wrong anyway. :-)

You know it! :-) It hadn't occurred to me to try to upload a gif as an avatar; this opens up so many possibilities.
