VW people! '91 VW Vanagon, not Synchro: engine replacement - WS shops?

Yes, I've searched the forums, gleaned some info already. :) Just wondering if anyone has any more recent input/recommendations/experiences with local shops.

I have a VW mechanic that takes care of the routine stuff, but with a job this big, I need to be thorough in my decision-making process. This is an expensive job, and the largest single expense to date (besides the heads about 9yrs ago, done at Hans on 35th) but the vehicle is worth it (you'll understand if you're a Vanagon person, otherwise you'll be wondering why I'm crazy enough to consider it).

not in WS, but have you contacted TEC shop in northgate? ASE certified and all-around good father-and-son VW team. last time i was there, they serviced all makes and models of VW.

they installed a rebuilt transmission in my late-90's golf, and they've done other miscellaneous jobs that i'm not qualified, don't have the tools for, or don't have the inclination to do myself.

it's been a couple of years, so the last number i have for them is (206)363-5560.

    good luck!

I'm an aircooled guy myself ('82). I had Hans put a new one in for me a while back. Well done from what I can tell. He sources the motors from NW Connecting Rod which is the top shelf builder in town. I don't know how it compares price wise but I imagine they're competitive and it keeps it in the 'hood.

Thanks redblack & 35this35. Northgate's a little far, but I am checking out Hans & a shop in Renton that works exclusively on Vanagons (NorthWesty).
