Volunteer this summer tutoring at-risk youth!

  1. Catholic Community Services' Youth Tutoring Program (YTP) is an after-school/evening educational enrichment program for at-risk students in first through twelfth grade. With tutoring centers in six low and mixed-income public housing communities in Seattle, YTP provides more than 450 kids, every year, with a fun, positive, and stimulating environment to explore learning and experience academic and personal success.

Our High Point Tutoring center, located in the High Point neighborhood of West Seattle, is currently looking for volunteers to assist with our Summer Reading Program. The Summer Reading Program (SRP) is a six-week fun and intensive literacy program for students in grades 1-8 that are behind in reading and writing. Volunteer tutors assist students as they read books, write book reports, learn new vocabulary words, improve comprehension, participate in fun literacy activities, and hopefully discover the joy of reading! This year SRP will run from Monday, June 27- Thursday, August 4. We are still accepting new volunteers! Visit http://www.ccsww.org/ytp to fill out an application today! For additional questions contact Marcel Purnell, Associate Volunteer Coordinator at MarcelP@ccsww.org or (206) 328-5970.

  2. This is a fantastic thing to do... I've worked with this group before tutoring and the programs they do are great! I encourage anyone who has 2 hours a week to get involved.

I'm excited I can now do this in my own neighborhood.

How come I missed this? Aw, I hope they do this again next time. It's really nice to be able to help kids, especially the at-risk youth of today. Giving them that enthusiasm to enjoy school and help them cope with schoolwork will definitely make a difference in their future. Here's a few information on mentoring at-risk kids.
I find it quite informative. Please do post future volunteering programs here, I'd love to be involved. Thanks!

  4. Baltogreen: You can sign up at anytime to voluteer with YTP. They have tutoring during the school year as well and can always use more volunteers. I tutored for a year or so at the High Point YTP before I had my daughter who was born earlier this year. This is a great program.
