  1. Voice your views to candidates for Seattle School Board, King County, City of Seattle, and Port about YOUR neighborhood concerns. Talk to the candidates, referendum and levy representatives one-on-one at the “West Seattle Candidates Forum” at South Seattle Community College on Thursday, July 28th at 6:30 pm.

    What would you ask:

Will a $20 increase in car tabs retain our neighborhood bus services and help reduce congestion?

Is West Seattle the next Belltown? After rezoning the “Triangle” is my neighborhood next?

How do we make I-35 safer for everybody?

How do I voice my opinion about the Downtown Emergency Service Center proposal in North Delridge?

How can West Seattle attract an Emergency medical center?

Use this forum to post your questions.

  3. I've taken the liberty of amending the title to this because we'll be pointing people to this from the front page in an upcoming story on the news page - and the organizers, Karl included, have made it clear, they REALLY want you to suggest questions for the candidates/advocates who will be at Thursday night's forum - they have worked very hard for this to be a grass-roots-organized/inspired event. Even if you don't have anything to ask, hope you'll go and watch and listen - they have booked **everyone**, even the so-called "minor" candidates (they're on the ballot, they should be heard too!), plus they're offering free ice cream (Husky Deli). See you there!

I would like to know each of the candidates honest stand on paid sick leave; give an example that shows they understand the complexities of the proposed ordinance; how workers are affected without having paid sick days now; how paid sick days could benefit workers, businesses, and public health

As the City's budget situation means more reductions, are there certain activities the City currently performs that it shouldn't? Why does it seem that public safety and human services get a relative pass comared to other activities? If we truly value those areas, can we not ask SPD, Fire and Human Services to not take any cuts, or even increase their budget since they are such a priority and ask other departments to take even larger cuts?

The city has touted its Low-income utility rates as a way to combat the continuning rise in cost of living. Yet, the program has an incredible difficult to apply for and requires individuals to jump through an amazing amount of hoops in the application process. It took 6+ months of submitting the paperwork before finally giving up? How can the city make these and other social service application processes easier, and instead of spending more money on outreach, could simplifing the process save money and time?

So every City Council candidate running has said that they are pro-union, yet everyone of them agreed to attended a non-union function. Given this fact, how do they feel they demonstrate this "pro-union" support in their lives?

First, I would first like to ask Steve Sundquist if Fairmont Park Elementary is going to reopen? If it does reopen, will it be a regular assignment school or a specialty school?

Second, I would like to ask all of the school board candidates how they will incorporate the (yet to form) Fairmont PTA in the hiring of new teachers and selection of a principal? I would also like to know how the school will be populated to ensure that a good representation of experienced, high quality teachers migrate from other schools in the district?

Finally, I would like to know whether the school district will provide PTA startup funds to compensate for the $100,000 that most PTAs raise in the preceding year?
