Any recommendation for a local source to transfer a 1970 album from vinyl to cd and/or mp3? Doesn't need to be fabulous quality as it's a kid's story album, and mostly nostalgia. Hoping to not pay a lot. Thanks!

Vinyl to cd/mp3 transfer

You could do this yourself with one of these (buy it at Radio Shack) and either Windows Sound Recorder (built-in to Windows Vista and 7) or Audacity (Google it). I'm sure Mac has some built in sound capture and editing software too.
This assumes you have a turntable with RCA outs.
If you want to try this, I can give you more complete instructions. The adapter shouldn't cost more than $5, and the software is all free (or already included with your computer).

bed bath and beyond has an adv for a product they say will do the job for under 100..
that might be a bit much for one album...
but where there is one bit of vinyl there is bound to be another :)Posted 6 months ago # -
Or you could go this route:
MP3 Encoding Turntable | $80 Amazon.com
And along the lines of my first post, here's some DIY instructions, with a link to a demo video.

I might be able to do it for a small fee. I've got a good turntable, sound editing software and can burn a disc for you. Plus, it's something my kid might enjoy as well.

Thanks for all your recommendations! Valvashon, if you'd be willing to pass along your email, maybe we could set something up?

My e-mail is my username plus earthlink.net. I'd be happy to come by and pick up your album some afternoon. I can try for a turnaround of a week or so but probably couldn't get it back to you any quicker.
