Urgent Care Fumble

  1. On Monday @ 12:45PM, I injured myself at home. My injury was not enough to call 911 but I knew I needed stitches. I figured that I didn't need to go to one of the big hospitals downtown. So, I googled the words "west" "seattle" "urgent" "care" and up came a few facilities. I called three of them and NOT ONE OF THEM ANSWERED THE PHONE. All three had message machines on. I left messages for all three with instructions to call me back. Only one called me back - THE NEXT MORNING. I see a big problem here.

I ended up calling my health insurance provider's "nurse help line". She instructed me that I needed to get care within an hour. I ended up at a clinic in SODO who deemed the injury serious enough to warrant surgery and off I was to Pill Hill.

Is this what happens when you call urgent care facilities in West Seattle?

I did not know there were 3 IC in WS. However my family has used the Highline urgent care clinic, with raving reviews. We are also patients there in the regular clinic, and they do close the phone lines during the lunch hour.

Once on WSB just type urgent care and you will find several links on this topic since it has been discussed previously.

  4. most doc offices take a lunch from 12pm to 1pm or 2pm. If it's urgent care, why call..just go.They may assume that since you called, it's not that urgent. Glad you were taken care of, though. Sorry you needed surgery.

For future reference, Grace Grymes-Chapman of West Seattle Community Clinic is up and running in her new location. She is in the office in the evenings as well as on weekends, and her cell phone number is listed on their answering machine for 24/7 urgent issues.

I had to call her once quite late at night to see whether something warranted an ER visit (it did,) and she was available and happy to help. She's a GREAT ARNP and is my primary care provider.

#(206) 937-9722 and the office is across the street and two doors north from OutWest and kitty-corner to the nursery.
