First, thanks to those of you who have been providing input and support and have been looking for the hit-and-run vehicle since May. We actually finally found the guy about a month ago. I had a great SPD Detective working the case, who followed numerous leads, including some found through some sleuthing on my own. For example, I called manufacturer part shops to see if the guy (whose name we knew due to the license plate) had purchased parts for his vehicle and we found that he had. Additionally, an SPD officer ran the guy's name and found that he had recently been picked up on another charge! The arrest info was relayed to the wreck investigation Detective who found a current address for the guy.

The city is pressing charges against the guy and we'll see what happens. With his track record, I'm not holding my breath that anything will come of it.

Mainly, I'd say that it pays to be persistent.

    Thanks again for your support!

  2. TVB...has anyone said that this guy actually carried insurance? Would be nice to think that you'd finally get some satisfaction monetarily for all the pain, suffering, inconvenience, etc. etc. Somehow, though, losers like this get away with not having it. Sigh.

    And a Happy T-Day to you :)

  3. Glad to hear it. I am working right now on a really long Crime Watch update with items that have backlogged over the past few days and will top it with a link to this.

I doubt the dude has insurance. His car and driver's license were registered to fake addresses, so it doesn't seem likely.

Frankly, after all the ringamarole I've had with insurance companies recently, I'm tempted to ask him for some tips on how to get away with not having it! ;-)

  5. Great sleuthing!

Hopefully he'll get much more than a wrist slap for all of his transgressions.

Please keep us posted on how this continues to pan out.

TVB I know who this guy is and he is not some loser as you describe!Actually he used to be a hotshot for the forest service and put his ass on the line for the us government and you the people of this great country! You keep demonizing this person as if he was a hardend criminal with a huge record!Look his record up and you'll see he has two charges from 1999 and now this charge from the city has him scrambling to pay for an attorney to defend him self in court.Yes you were hit and thank god you were not hurt!I feel bad for you in that sense and understand you are very pissed off!But let the courts determine he is guilty not WSB and you!The guy is a surfer and has an offroad suv that is registered to a valid adress his grandmothers! For you to keep posting all this hype without a guilty conviction is for moot and is slander and you know this!Remember a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law!If he is found guilty then he should go to jail and pay you for your car and suffering.

  8. He's not a loser, he's a misunderstood surfer! Well, thank goodness for that. It's just hard for some of us not to think "loser" when someone's committed a hit-and-run. And by the way, I believe the victim WAS hurt (though not seriously) when your friend hit her.

  9. revolvervelvet..TVB WAS hurt...and he just sped away...no need to throw the rest of it in there to make him look like a good guy. He was wrong, period. Tell TVB's medical bills about innocent until proven guilty...tell that to her car that was totalled...and he just left the scene? You really make excuses for this? Too bad he's scrambling for a lawyer...actually, it's TFB !!! He was/is in the wrong...and that's simply the way it is. Tell him to man up and take responsibility for his actions, for goodness sake. Whatever he was in the past does not negate what he did.....and you know it. And to be clear..this is just my opinion, for whatever that's worth.

  10. Also, revolvervelvet, I see that you've just joined the forum in order to comment on this thread. Interesting screen name. Is that intended as some kind of threat to the original poster?

  11. I cannot believe that someone is actually defending the actions of a hit and run driver. Seriously. If you know where he is, let TVB know so she can recoup some of the money she had to put out because of this "hotshot"'s irresponsible actions. She was hurt, and her car was totaled. I don't care how much YOU think he's a good guy, revolver...he's NOT. He's an irresponsible LOSER.

Dontcha know how to make a troll that desperately needs attention go away? You simply ignore it.

  13. True, the best way to deal with a troll is to ignore it. But it seems I'm not going to be able to do that.

And it is true that our legal system presumes innocence until one is proven guilty. But there's another element that comes into play here -- personal responsibility. And it seems this is something that Mr. Surfer Dude greatly lacked when he fled the scene of an accident, caring not a whit for the welfare of anyone who may have been injured. He had the choice to stop and do the right thing. But he didn't.

He further had the choice to stop and turn around after being tailed by at least one car who witnessed the accident -- perhaps he didn't realize he'd crashed into the side of a car as he careened through the intersection where the accident happened. But he didn't.

When the police contacted his grandmother, he could have come forward to plead his case and try to clear his name if he felt the police were in the wrong. But he didn't.

Through all this, my good friend TVB has had to deal with a lot of physical pain, monetary loss, headaches over making sure insurance companies and government entities were fulfilling their promises, and a lot of anguish over how this one moment changed the course of a lot of things for her this year. I look forward to Mr. Surfer Dude having his day in court and having a judge and/or jury decide his guilt or innocence. I have a feeling I know which way the legal winds may blow, but I will reserve opinion until final judgment is assessed. However, I do know this -- I have zero respect for such an irresponsible and, frankly, dangerous person.

If it walks like a douchebag, talks like a douchebag, then it must be a douchebag.

  22. revolvervelvet...

what i want to know.. if this is such a good man..

why didn't you.. a good friend... help him do the right thing and turn himself in for his hit and run accident?

or at the least help him make restitution to his victim?

You sat idly by while the Velvet Bulldog pleaded for anyone who knew anything about this incident to contact the police.. while she told her story of injury and loss.

Did you think that if he got away with it .. it was ok.. that it didn't matter who he hurt.. whose life he put on hold... as long as he was a good guy?

I am as perplexed by you as i am by the family and friends who didn't care enough about the man who shot those officers to save his life.. and those of possible innocent bystanders... by helping him safely turn himself in.
