amaliaParticipant7 years ago, I adopted 2 cats from the group cat room at King Co Humane Society. One was the sweetest, cuddliest bug ever, and I’m heartbroken that she had to be euthanized after 4 years of cancer treatment. The second, it turns out, was no doubt a feral surrender (despite having been in the “social” adoption room). I rarely saw her and could never get close to her, but she would cuddle with the sweet kitty when I wasn’t around. With the main kitty gone, she has no life – just hides in dark corners and presumably comes out to eat when I’m gone. She would not do well with another cat (the 2 cats were slowly introduced, even though they’d live together at the pound), and although we have a dog in the house, they never come in contact. As well, I’m moving out of the area, and trapping and moving this cat to an unfamiliar place will not serve her well.

So – will anyone commit to trying to take on such a pet? My vet suggested putting anti-anxiety medication in her food, but that did not have an effect. You could try that again with a larger dose. But you’ll have to be prepared to take care of a cat that you will rarely see, likely never pet (she hisses in fear if you try while she’s trapped somewhere), and who shouldn’t have other pets in the home.
.
Please note, I will NOT entertain anyone who might allow this cat outside AT ALL (unless in an enclosure).
.
Please ask around – I really don’t want to put this cat through a long move to an unfamiliar place where we have a dog.

hammerheadParticipantIf this cat has been living like this for 7 years, what makes you think moving her would bother her.
Look at it from her perspective, all she has needed in the past 7 years, you have done: food, water, litter box and a safe place to hide.
All she needs if for you to continue to be her good custodian.
Clarify, Seatlle/Bellevue “humane” society or did you mean king county animal control.
If worst comes to worst, I have a friend with a cat sanctuary, feralcare@gmail.com

furryfacesParticipantAmalia, Please email us as furryfaces@hotmail.com
We have a couple ideas. When email, please mention this WSB post and/or include the link. (It will refresh our memory as we are prepping for a big event this weekend and our brains are a little full.)
