No big deal, even though I have paid parking downtown I will take the water taxi. I work close to pike market anyways.

  3. Good to know! Although this won't effect my commute route itself (I commute by bike) I will have to be aware of the crazy driver scenario as traffic slows down and people become frustrated and start driving on sidewalks, in the bike lane, blocking intersections, etc. Good times ahead! :-0

    it's all for the betterment.

i'm taking the week off, if i can afford to lose the hours.

i will rethink that plan if i'm working on a job in tacoma that week. :)

This was reported in WSB a while ago, but it wasn't tagged with the usual Viaduct tag because it didn't come up in a tag search and a Google site search is almost useless on such a big topic. I was worried that this was happening in August but now that it's October I have time to plan around it.

(I hope Metro has plans around it for the bus I would take to work a couple of those days.)

  6. Bostonman...what a great area to work in. If I was working downtown, I'd choose that :) Would love to shop at the market at the end of the workday, and then water taxi home!

  7. Just a data point ... I have no idea why KING did this story now, at least written the way it was written, as if this was something new. I can understand if they had written "the state wants to remind you, we're getting closer to ..." but.

This was first announced in early June, when the state declared it would finish the southbound lanes six months early. That was widely reported, and then two weeks later, we were the only media on hand at the ensuing Delridge District Council meeting where for the first time the South End Replacement Project boss, Matt Preedy, put a likely date on it - October 21 to 31. I don't know if that is still the expected date, though. Will ask them tomorrow. KING did not mention specific dates.

  8. Without the dates in October, it is kind of useless as a work scheduling tool--and not knowing what "extra water taxis" would mean. Later hours? Earlier hours? Extended weekend hours? All things that would help me with planning my commute strategy during that time period.

the WSB reported the dates as being October 21-31 back in June.

Surprised they didn't sensationalize it more with "CARMEGEDDON PENDING!!!"

Its a great place to work. My office window looks south right over Pikes Market and from my office window I can see the Navy ships docked and have a fantastic view of Mt Rainier above the stadiums.

  13. Oct. 21-31 are the "likely" days. That doesn't mean those will be the actual days.

  14. Bostonman...we'll have to instruct you on how not to sound like an outsider - lol...it's Pike Place Market, not Pikes Market ;-) I had to learn when I came here from the east coast. Should have heard me say Puyallup and Humptulips - lol...

actually, it is easy to pronounce Humptulips; what's difficult is not snickering like a 12-year-old.
