Is it just us or is anyone else getting a warning from their anti virus protection about an Explorer download containing a trojan virus. Mine is denying it just fine, but whenever I click to the next subject the warning pops up. We got spammed the other day, I wonder if that has something to do with it. It came in on an e mail whose owner had been hacked.

munchkin...I got an e-mail the other day that was a SPAM message, maybe from the same person? Yes, I opened it, but my computer hasn't been affected...maybe I got lucky?

What version of IE are you using and what operating system?

you talking to Munchkin or me, Mr. Clark?

Not sure what level of Explorer, running Windows XP with Kaspersky protection. Another poster has seen the Trojan tonight as well and has also contacted TR.
Advice on finding my IE level? I tried properties but I don't see it.Posted 4 months ago # -
I ran into the same issue earlier today when trying to post to the forums. Home computer froze and I had to use task manager to shut down IE. Accessed my work computer running Kaspersky and saw the message about the program being blocked, "trojan.JS.Iframe.tj". I only get the message trying to log in to the Forum and after clicking "Send Post". I didn't have a chance to report earlier as I was trying to do a quick post before heading out the door to dinner.
@ munchkin22: try to find the "About Internet Explorer" and click that menu option (usually available off your Help somewhere). About will display your IE version. At home I'm running IE8 on XP, at work also running IE8 but on Windows 7.Posted 4 months ago # -
Anyone who can avoid using IE, it's highly recommended. For more reasons than its vulnerabilities. FWIW, WSB runs all-Mac and I use Chrome, Firefox, and Safari over the course of most days.
That said, our Ace Tech Person suspects it's a false positive but nonetheless, he has replaced the core forum software files in case something corrupted was in there. We've been making some undercarriage tweaks again lately in preparation for some improvements, so you never know when something weird might happen. No one has reported anything related to the news section, and I have only heard from a few people despite the huge traffic increase today (starting with the early am fire and running through snow) so ... But please e-mail me if you see anything else from hereon out. editor@westseattleblog.com

Just tried again from the home computer and am no longer seeing the behavior I just documented via email--once logged in, this text box was editable immediately with no delay and no need to use Task Manager to shut down.
Thanks for the prompt attention!!Posted 4 months ago # -
I too am running IE8 with Windows XP.

I am now no longer getting the warning so thanks WSB for fixing this.

Google Chrome is where it's at folks :)

as of 11pm Sunday, Norton is still telling me it has blocked a threat whenever I change pages on WSB, but when I click on the report function to ID the threat, Norton says WSB is 'safe'. But then the rating icon for the page changes to 'OK'. Weird. And yes, I am using XP and IE8.

I'm seeing the warning now.
Firefox 9.0.1 running Avast AV.Posted 4 months ago # -
Somebody check now if you can. Alex sent me a note with an exact URL and I sleuthed the problem. However, I have tried to e-mail him from two accounts and his account is rejecting both! Anyway, if someone is still getting this right NOW then I have to keep looking...

I deleted my browsing history and shut down my browser; when I came back to WSB a little after midnight, I didn't get any virus warning messages, so it seems the problem is resolved.

I sure hope people are not running XP that is no longer supported you have to have SP2 or above otherwise you are at risk and please update your browsers to the current versions. Looks like a Java Script issue the security software is flagging as the problem. You also might try Microsoft security Essentials. Kaspersky and Norton are not very well liked

I got this warning this afternoon, running IE8 on Windows 7.

I use Micro. Security Essentials, Google Chrome as browser, and I have had no problems with whatever is coming out of the forums. I tend to stay away from Internet Explorer. I get error messages and shut downs left and right even when I use it briefly. Chrome is terrific..
