Traffic to/from West Seattle

    How was the weekend traffic to/from West Seattle today (5/14)? Debating whether to try leaving the island tomorrow.

    I left via the low bridge at 4:00 pm and had no trouble, traffic was very light.

    Came back through Ballard around 8pm and found both Alaskan Way and 1st Ave to be completely backed up. Alaskan Way was a parking lot even down at Pier 69-70. Wound up cutting over to Airport Way, then over to 1st Ave S and had no problem getting back over the low bridge from there.

    I am about to put up a front-page item with a reader photo of gridlock 1 pm headed out of town. Depending on who's online at this hour, more discussion may ensue. If I had to leave, on a day with NO Viaduct, I would go all the way around and take Highland Park Way to the 1st Avenue South bridge north, except at a total off-hour like ... right now.
