Traffic question re 59th and Admiral

  1. Hello

still figuring out Seattle traffic patterns. There is a traffic light on 59th and Admiral for turning onto Admiral I think? and a stop sign for 59th St. crossing & Admiral. I've never seen this mix of stop sign and traffic light and I'm never sure what to do, so I thought I'd ask.

  2. If I am thinking of the right intersection I believe the traffic light is for the cross walk only - so it stops traffic on Admiral. The stop sign is for the cars coming up 59th and there is no traffic light for them. So all cars on 59th stop and proceed as you normally would after stopping at a stop sign, just watch for pedestrians in the cross walk.

You may also notice that 59th leads directly to Alki Elementary. That light provides a safe pedestrian crossing for the children who attend that school.

  4. If the traffic on Admiral has a red light, and any pedestrians have crossed, you can turn from 59th onto Admiral (left or right) after stopping at the stop sign.

  5. thanks! In Illinois they don't have a stop sign and a traffic light at the same intersection. Yes I have seen the crossing guard there.
