Trader Joes?

  1. Just curious, it hasn't been in the "news" for awhile, I know it isn't scheduled to open until the new year, but does any one have any idea of how the work is progressing?

I go by TJ's every day. Today I noticed that the ramp leading up to the roof area off of 39th had been torn up ( the supports are still there but the concrete surface is gone). Every day I see something new. I wish, in some respects, that it would hurry up, but at the same time I know I will loose my parking spot when they do open. I will have to look for some where else to park.

  3. I'm just happy knowing that next holiday season the dark chocolate covered shortbread stars will be just a mile away.

Meegan, they're already in stock in Burien ;)

  5. Aside from what you see if you pass by there, there just isn't anything to say besides "they're still working on it." The progress is incremental. For example (we pass by pretty much daily too), the parking lot is striped. The cinderblocks are in place for the part of the facade that will hold the main sign. But TJ's is, as recently described somewhere, a "secretive" company (to say the least!) and just not into progress reports. Don't even expect to see WS on this list http://www.traderjoes.com/stores/coming-soon.asp until they're practically done! - TR

  7. Wren, we go to the one in Burien - take 509 south to 160th Street. Turn right onto 160th and then turn right into the shopping center parking lot. 15868 1st Ave S

There's also a few of them north of West Seattle (Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, U District, if you're headed to those areas rather than south). Just plug your zip into the traderjoes.com site and it'll give you directions.

I find the Ballard one reasonably convenient, when I have other errands that take me out of WS. Today, for a change, I went to the Capitol Hill store, but I like the layout at Ballard better.

Don't know about Ballard but cap hill has limited indoor parking and I gotta say, I like that in winter.

  11. TJs typically have crappy parking. That is nearly a requirement. The Burien TJs is anomalous: moderately size store, easy parking, easy access. Queen Anne = classic: crappy parking, jostling in the aisles, a pain in the rear. Cap Hill: still crappy parking, but a larger than expected store. Ballard: Parking--ok, store is moderately sized but getting to it is a pain. I think the WS store will be like the QA or Capital Hill store. Decent on the inside, survival of the fittest for parking.

The TJ's in Reno is huge compared to all of 'em here. :0D

  13. I vastly prefer the selection at the Capitol Hill store over Burien, but I have the luxury of being able to go there in the middle of the day. Ballard is probably my second choice as far as selection goes.
