    This is what I know:
West Seattle has some of the most caring and generous souls about.
We are close to reaching (a very roughly-estimated) goal of cooking up a potluck meal for 100; the feast is to be held at Nickelsville at 5:00 p.m. this Saturday, June 18th. All are welcome--but there is delivery service, as needed.
I don't know the specifics of what is being prepared: I've heard chili and curry and lasagna and chicken and scrumptios salads and desserts. We'll turn the bread into garlic bread, and there will be drinks (less sugary) for 100. I am hoping that there will be tables on which to lay out the food, and we've heard that heat and refigeration are hard to come by.
There are still a few spots open for desiring cooks:
**3 more main courses (5 servings)
**4 salads (preferably green or fruit)
    **4 desserts
Any appetizers would be fabulous as well.

Please email or phone me to get involved:
angelescrestk at gmail dot com or at 937.2327.
Below is the list of sign-ups:

  2. I have a table that you can have. It is not that pretty but it will work and they can keep it afterwards. I cannot transport it because it is to large to fit in my Mini. If someone would like to come pick it up you can have it. Let me know.

MIWS, jamjets, etc. Can you use BR's table?
    Thanks, Big Red!

Thanks Angelcrest for a new line item in the forum. I had missed the "second page" and wanted to make sure folks saw the current dscussion. I know JoB will be posting later; N'ville says they have enough tables but I am going to take a folding one for backup. BigRed, thanks for the offer and I will take that one to the site as well. I am terminally avoiding being a pick-up truck/delivery service to the site since I am doing a daily water run, but Saturday I am committed to lots of transportation! I will ping you Friday for details in this thread, THX!

Just to confirm, Muttley Crew Cuts is a drop off location in Admiral yes (across from Met Market behind the Cross Fit)?

  7. Kimberley, this was the post about Muttley Crew taking donations (perishables only accepted on Saturday): http://westseattleblog.com/forum/topic/the-potluck-for-nickelsville-is-on-june-18th-500#post-129024

Thanks Sue - was just confirming location as the original post notes that it's in the alaska junction, unless I'm reading the post wrong.

  10. I've had an offer of single serving type bottled water in the process of contacting family who don't always get a chance to read the blog. Does anyone know if single serving bottled water is of use? My concern is the issue it may create for the folks of Nickelsville disposing of the empty bottles. If it's of use, I'll coordinate with my relative to bring the water when I bring the food.

  13. double-posting:
    ~
well I drove up and down and across many times tonight in that area trying to find, looking for parking lot with porta potties; finally saw the tops of potties over ridge of tiny lot; VOILA
    ~
spent couple hours tonight with Mike, my wonderful tour guide, and meeting his community; look forward to party tomorrow, now that I sort of know how to get there
    ~
I HIGHLY recommend a visit; I am feeling incredibly grateful tonight, to have a flush toilet, and luxury to wash my hands, take a shower, grab some juice out of the fridge, heat up leftover Thai in the microwave, turn on the fan, sit down at my computer, watch the news on tv……….oh the many things we take for granted

  14. I also picked up some of the Nickelsville open house & potluck flyers; any suggestions on where to post in the morning?

Linda, In my opinion the bottled water would be gratefully accepted (everything is...) but is not needed. You are correct about the additional refuse, even though the camp is attempting to recycle.

Water capacity at the camp is about 125 gallons a day, and daily use is running about 70-90 gallons (ignoring a few days of usage spike).

I know its too late today to freeze, but a couple of frozen gallons a day (or when able) would be beneficial for their coolers. Easiest way would be to take a sealed gallon, remove some water for expansion, and freeze with lid off.

I personally don't think washing empty milk jugs and filling to freeze is a good idea as there is a risk of contamination. Because I am hauling daily water for them, I am pretty paranoid about water-borne illness. They rotate their containers and I rinse all the empties with bleach water before they are refilled.

Gatewood-Morgan Junction-Lincoln Park area: Last call for "potluck pickup"!

I can pick up your donations in this area between 3:30 and 4:00. If you prefer to drop off I can give you a dropoff address on mid-Gatewood Hill, we will accept those until 4:30 sharp. Please make sure all items are well sealed for car transport.

We >do not< have the capacity to "hold warm" but those types of items should be fine on their own. We >do< have the capacity to hold items cool.

Should only be just showers late today so come on out!! There will likely be a little mud, so wear old/yardwork footwear.

  17. Thanks jamjets! I will pass the word to my relative who wanted to help by buying bottled water. You are correct, there is not time to freeze the water today. Plus, my refrigerator has about the tiniest freezer I have ever seen. Instead, I will work with her after the potluck is over to meet other food needs they may have.

  20. Yes, thanks agelescrest,;-) and everyone else that made this such a fun and tummy filling event!

It was nice to see some familiar faces, and to finally put faces to names of others after so many years.

Special thanks to those that were unable to attend, but contributed anyway.
