When I heard about the 5.7 magnitude quake off V. Isle earlier today I did some research and later found out that there were 2 additional quakes of lesser magnitude earlier in the day and using geographic and seismic data I was able to determine that these 3 quakes occurred on the " Subduction Zone " This area is where most Geologists and Seismologists agree the Pac NW will have a devastating quake of magnitude 8 or higher ( not a matter of IF but WHEN ) and taking this into consideration I find it VERY interesting that there were 3 quakes in this area today alone thus leading to the debate of whether or not these quakes were related or is a precursor to a bigger event? One thing to note is that a similar situation happened in Japan before their massive magnitude 9.0 quake in Japan.

JoB, I'm not trying to scare people but provide info related to what happened today, in no way was my post intended to " cry wolf "... don't let what you cannot control prevent you from living life.
Just know that Mother Nature is making her presence known.
BTW, my handle is actually PK22 :)

Holy Crap! Have you looked at the USGS map of California for the last week ? Northern Cali and SoCal's Inland Empire have seen many an earthquake.

I saw you post and found a group Pacific Northwest SeismicNetwork that seemed to say there was no concern yet.

They actually mentioned the report of the event off of Oregon was not actual and there are difficulties in how these events are reported between states and countries. It's an interesting group - but most of it's way over my ability to understand.Posted 3 months ago # -
5-something quakes are a small rock in your Birkenstocks...intensity is a log scale, and 5s at a distance are worth noting, but not worth worrying about. Foreshocks of a larger quake (5 leading to a 6) are less than a 5% chance. I am a geologist so know something about this. Worry about the 6-something in your backyard. But unless an 8 rocks Forks, I am not worried. Our local plate Is a newbie and as such is flexible unlike the ones near Japan.

Jaydee, considering that 2 of these quakes occurred on CSZ and WERE " Thrust " quakes and the other ( the 5.7 ) was a strike slip concerns me albeit a small amount it is still worth noting that is unusual.

my apologies for the slip of the tongue..
must have been tired :)i too watch the world as it creaks and groans
i hope an earthquake is not eminent because too many people i care about would be in harms way
i check the plates and stay single story to increase my chances.. but none of us would fare well in a big one

Quakes up off Vancouver Island are pretty common. Just for fun, at almost the same time there was also a cluster of quakes off the Oregon coast, in an area known as the 'Blanco Fracture Zone'.
Realtime maps and lots of good info at http://www.pnsn.org
And not to worry, that 5.7 quake was only about 1/50000 the size of the Big One.

On Twitter I follow @WheresItShaking Almost every earthquake anywhere is posted there. At first the sheer number really worried me, but now I'm kind of used to the fact that there are several shakes daily all over the world. Makes it a little more normal, I guess.
