I just wanted to give a shout-out to my rescuing angel last Saturday morning. I was on my way to a gathering that was really important to me (not life-or-death, but important) when I slid on the ice and got stuck in the middle of my icy hill.
A young man named Chip came along, also trying to drive out. He did have room (and 4 wheel drive) and could have gone around me, but he stopped and took the time to dig the ice from around my wheels. He stood by and guided me through several back-and-forth maneuvers so I could get enough traction in the ruts to continue backing down the hill to bare & wet pavement (oh yes, backing! too long a story for here).
He saved me a potential 3-hour wait for AAA and was so very kind in the bargain. I hadn't met him before, and may not meet up with him again, but he and his companion, who waited patiently in their vehicle, have my heartfelt thanks.
Also on the plus side - no humans or vehicles were damaged in the production of this rescue.
