the latest on Wren looking for her "forever dog"

  1. Hello

Just in case anyone knows of a small adult dog that needs a good loving home, I am finally actively looking for my forever dog. I've started visiting shelters. People at two of the shelters (Bellevue and Lynnwood) were very friendly and helpful. Sadly I had a negative experience at the Seattle Humane Society. I'm also keeping an eye on Craigslist as well.

  2. As per forum rules wren, did you take your issue to management at the Humane Society?

  3. Wren, here are some other places in the area to look as well.

    Old Dog Haven
    Lady's Hope
    Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue
    Ginger's pet Rescue
    Homeward Pet Adoption Center
    Petfinder.com

The West Seattle Herald usually runs a weekly pet of the week who needs adopting as well. There's a dog out there somewhere waiting for you. :)

mehud7 -- those rules apply to Rants which Wren's post isn't. Her comment about the Humane Society seems incidental to the purpose of her post, which is that she is looking for a dog. If it was a rant, the focus of the post would be about the Humane Society.

Wren -- best of luck on finding your forever dog.

  5. Try Burien Animal control, all the dogs that came from a hoarder are all SMALL in size.

Also king county animal control got over 70 from that same man but his dogs were in Issaquah. so they are out there.

They may not be perfect but they need a home.

Wren - try contacting Super Fun Happy Dog: http://www.superfunhappydog.com/contact.htm they're currently adopting a small, older dog named Arthur that one of the owners found by the side of the road a few months back. He's been nursed back to health and could be the one for you.

  7. Commenting on the Rant policy: I disagree. You can't just say "I had a bad experience at that company." I have had posts exactly like Wren's ("I had a bad experience at Company A, but a good experience at Company B") removed because I didn't follow the Rant policy.

  8. Thanks for the suggestions, a few of the groups I was not familiar with. I guess it was sort of a "rant" about the Humane Society - although if I'd been ranting I would have said a lot more - anyway sorry about that. As a matter of fact I did file a complaint with them.

Try A.A.R.F. (Animal Aid and Rescue Foundation). They are local and work with adopters to find the right fit....whether the dog is from their group or another one. http://www.myaarf.org/contact.html

  10. Dang, wren! I wish EVERYONE put as much thought into getting the right pet as you do. With most folks it's like: Oh! THAT one looks cute. Why don't I just take him home with me?

Then when it doesn't work out, they're all surprised.

Works the same when picking humans, too, you know. How sad.

I wonder how many boyfriends / girlfriends / spouses are up for adoption in Seattle right now. Hope they all find good homes . . .

I volunteer at the Seattle Humane Society, so I just wanted to clarify something in Wren's post. The Seattle Humane Society is the shelter in Bellevue. I am assuming the shelter you had a negative experience in was actually the Seattle Animal Shelter.

  14. YAY! I have found my forever dog. HIs name is Samie, he is a 5.5 year old papilon. He is a real love. He comes home on Tuesday.

And yes, DelridgeResident, it was the Seattle Animal Shelter I had trouble at. The people at the Bellevue Shelter were very helpful.

I'm happy to be the first to congratulate you and Samie. He is a lucky little guy to have been adopted by someone who clearly put so much thought and care into selecting him. Have fun!

  18. Wren,

    Congratulations!

Don't leave us hanging this week when the little man arrives. We'd love a pic and to know how it's going with Samie.

Please post if you have any questions when he comes in to your family. It can take a little time for all to adjust. You have a good community ready to help. We're all happy you have your little guy coming and the months of gathering info/prep you have done. Well done!

Enjoy your new guy and update us when you can.

  19. Thanks everybody - particularly most recently smy. It is a great community.

I am sure I will have questions to post. I have owned females before and slightly larger dogs,so Samie will have fun getting to know each other.

How do I post a picture?

I do have a couple of questions now. Vet wise, I think I've read good things on the blog about West Seattle Hospital. He needs a few shots and to be fixed.

Also I plan to take him with me in my car a lot and I want to keep him safe in the car. Any thoughts?

  20. South Seattle Vet on 1st Ave. S. is also a good vet (and cheaper), and I know quite a few people on here who also use Lien Animal Clinic on Alaska SW near the triangle area, and seem to be happy.

  21. wren...

what kind of safety are you concerned about in the car?

for riding safety a pet seat belt is a good idea.. it does confine but it also makes certain that your pup doesn't go flying if you brake.

    i confess that i don't practice what i preach

second alternative is a secured crate..

    again i don't practice what i preach

but my rolling kennel does come equipped with a disabling device on the sliding doors so it doesn't react to someone else's clicker and pop open.. and more than one raised dog bed sothe pups can see out.. and a permanent secure spot for a water dish... in my case cupholders with filled cups... and tinted windows...
