Am I missing something here? In the past week or so I have noticed several forum posts that are clearly lacking some critical information. In some cases it is the original post. As an example, the recent post about the best pizzeria indicates there have been 4 posts yet I can only see two. It starts out with baconmaplebargrrrrl saying "I'll second that!" Second what? I can't see the original post. I also recall the exchange about the creepy guy that said it had 101 posts (until it disappeared completely) but I could only see 83. Is it me? Should I re-think my deodorant? Breath mints? Is that because someone has chosen to ignore me? I haven't chosen to ignore anyone (intentionally). If that's part of an attempt to make the forums a friendlier place I guess I'm cool with it but it is pretty annoying to be missing critical pieces of information. What's up with all the missing stuff? Where did it go? I'm not blaming the WSB or being critical - I just want to know. Is this happening to others as well?

The Case of the Disappearing Posts

Never mind. I went into my profile and saw that I was ignoring JoB! It's a travesty. Not sure how it happened. Wasn't on purpose. I'm no longer ignoring her but you all can ignore this post (unless you're ignoring me already). Case closed. . . . .

2 much whine
I thought that might be what happened...
i have to check my profile regularly to find out who i made one of those subconscious corrections to

To ignore a poster is to risk not knowing what they're saying about you to the rest of the world. Might be something good, too. Right?
I don't care how irritating and/or naughty people are on here.
I NEVER ignore.
I NEVER flag (except SPAM).Posted 6 months ago # -
I have, on occasion, put someone on ignore when I simply get tired of the rhetoric. It doesn't last long because it definitely interrupts the flow. So I also exercise my right to get up and walk away :)
Sometimes I need to put myself on ignore...that doesn't work !

I don't think we can ignore ourselves..
Posted 6 months ago # -
nope...no ignore button after my posts..

I've never used "ignore". What does it do?
Posted 6 months ago # -
anonyme...
it eliminates the person you ignore from your screen...
so if you eliminated me you wouldn't see a single post i make about anything.
i can be a useful tool, but it does make it more difficult to track a conversation.
i tend to use my eyes as my ignore function.
i scan a post, then read the replies, then post.
at first it took discipline but after a while it became a lot easier and it makes the conversation a lot less confusing.

The following anecdote has something to do with the topic at hand.
Trust me.
<anecdote>
My daughter recently went through a nasty divorce. At first ex-husband had custody of the kids, but he lived in a different state from her and so she couldn't see her kids and couldn't even talk to them on the phone, except when they were at the day care.
Meanwhile, ex-husband was sending frequent e-mails and text messages to my daughter, cussing her six ways to Sunday, calling her a slut, an unfit mother, etc. You know the drill . . .
I asked her: "So why don't you just block his e-mail and text messages?"
"Because sometimes he puts some important news in there about the girls, and if I block his messages I won't get that news."
</anecdote>
Just another good reason to scan (but not "ignore") posts, eh?

My gripe with some folks here is not that they have different politics from mine and not even that they sometimes employ [gasp!] faulty logic. It's that their posts are so looooong and have so many non sequiturs in them that you don't even know where to begin addressing them.
It's like . . .
♫ ♫
I say 'tomato'
You say 'Obama'I say 'potato'
You say 'Yo mama!'Tomato / Obama / Potato /Yo mama!
Let's call the whole thing off.♫ ♫
