The Big Hole

Any idea who at the City or what department at the City I need to contact to see if better barricades can be put up around the construction site at Fauntleroy & Alaska.

That hole is protected by a cyclone fence on the south side, west side and majority of the east side. Since these are busy streets I am afraid an error in judgement could prove to be fatal. The drop appears to be 40' or so.

For instance, EXAMPLE #1 Coming down the alley-way out of Jiffy Lube, eastbound-if one failed to negotiate the turn properly(think elderly driver, snowy roads, stuck gas pedal, mechanical break-down, brake failure) over the cliff you go!

EXAMPLE #2-Veh #1 Northbound on Fauntleroy-entering intersection with Alaska when Veh #2, westbound on Alaksa run's a red light striking VEH #1 on passenger side sending both vehicle careening NORTHWEST into the abyss.

    Any other scenarios?

Any ideas when/if the site will be completed?--2013?

Instead of a Grocery Store what else could/should go here?

  2. I agree about the fencing, Dale.

The use of the hole? Well, imaginatively...line it with concrete, with water-in, and water-out plumbing, add a diving board, some landscaping and a plexiglass dome..maybe some heat for the H2O...call it West Seattle Municipal Pool ;-) ..charge 2 bucks for an afternoon of swimming...you have to bring your own towel - lol....

  3. We continue to cover this but have no new info on whether the sale is going through or not. At this point the company that owns it isn't commenting, perhaps because they are now the target of two lawsuits, so we are simply watching public records to see if anything about the ownership changes.

    Regarding filing a complaint:
The city DPD is the place to do that.

This doesn't entirely fit in their suggested categories but probably comes close to "dangerous building."

I called the City of Seattle-the rep I spoke to said that no violation has occurred and technically they are not even required to put up the cyclone fencing around the job site.

    Really!

I wonder who bought all that dirt after they dug it up. Somebody bought it.

  7. Jiggers, I seem to recall reading somewhere here on WSB, that it was trucked out to Sumner, or someplace.

I thought this post was about the basketball sized pot hole that sprung up on Fauntleroy near graham.
