After a harried morning of schlepping my 2.5 yr old on a million errands, of course he started melting down in the line at the post office. He was behaving just terribly (even kicked a man!). I can't even begin to tell you how frustrated, hungry, distracted, and tired (not to mention 9 months pregnant) I was as I was putting him in the car and scolding him for his behavior when a man walked up and said, "Thank you for explaining to him how his behavior was wrong instead of being a witch about it." I could have cried. It's those harried moments when it would be so much easier to spank or vent our own frustration out on our kids instead of TEACHING them right from wrong. The man made my day and helped me walk away from a frustrating moment feeling proud of myself as a mom. PSA: When you see a parent taking the time to teach their kiddo the right thing instead of just flying off the handle, let them know you noticed. Toddlers don't offer very much moral support.

I'm getting a little misty-eyed for you because I SO have been there, gambaru. Be they tired, bored, hungry, or just having one of those days where it seems the kidlet's on a mission to test every last ounce of your patience, when someone actually notices and thanks/praises you for the often less-than-pleasant but necessary job you're doing in guiding them, it's an amazing and much-needed boost. And especially when you're in the mood and place you are right now. (I have a 7 and 4-year-old, so I remember those days of being very pregnant and chasing after a wild toddler) I'm glad that man spoke up and voiced that to you. You have my support and respect. Hang in there, mama!
