   Just got the info for driver's ed at WSHS. It's $600 and sounds like if my student misses two sessions they are tossed out and I'm out $600. Is this the only option in order to get a license while in high school? Dear neighbors: What are the ins and outs of the whole teen driver's license process? What are our options? Any help is greatly appreciated!

   My daughter took driver's ed through Puget Sound Driving Academy on Fauntleroy Way. They are having a special right now for $395. Here is the link http://pugetsounddrivingacademy.com/id13.html
   My daughter's instructor must be a saint, I swear. Very patient, very calm. My daughter got her license 2 months ago and passed both tests with ease. Good luck!!!

   Another satisfied PSDA customer here. I think all the programs are pretty strict about attendance - that's a good thing for the rest of us on the road, right? ;) Maybe the PSDA class schedule will be more convenient for your student though. I do know a LOT of kids with sports or other activities who ended up postponing the license for a little while, instead of the minute they were eligible, because they just couldn't do the training after school.

   Sooo...
   How many sessions does 600.00 buy? And how many students per class?

   (I may be in the wrong racket)

   In the 70's in NC drivers ed was included in the fees for the year, (less than 60.00) which included a nc state patrol officer to explain what to do (and not to do) with your gun when you got pulled over.

   Maybe the insurance is high?

   Is there an RCW that mandates rules, licenses and bonding for drivers education teachers?

   Of course most of us had been driving tractors since we were 10 or 12...

   Although we ended up delaying our son's license for various reasons, we did check out PSDA, and they were very professional, very accessible, and a LOT cheaper than WSHS. Again, we didn't actually use their services, but from what we saw, you could definitely do worse.

   And yes, any instruction course will have strict attendance requirements...the kids have to fulfill a certain number of training hours to get their licenses.

   We loved PSDA - teachers and administration was great - gave a discount if you came with a friend and they were the cheapest we found. My daughter passed everything and is a great teenage driver!

    Behind The Wheel in Burien was great for our 2 sons. It was $360 per kid, and the teacher / owner was outstanding. I felt very confident when they graduated!

    These RCW's apparently means you must cough up dough to get your kid a license to drive in WA. Much like the nonsensical motorcycle endorsements RCW. Like all outsourcing schemes from the WA legislature, designed to give cronies a business model to exploit as far as I can tell.

    Gee, yes, it's terrible that people should have to pay their own way to learn about responsible driving techniques rathter than the more "socialized" way we used to learn it isn't it? Isn't this what the new conservative party wants...?

    I am all for more training, more learing, more skills for everyone. And I took the so-called "non-sensical" motorcycle endorsement class and it was fantastic. It was well structured, interesting, taught by people who knew what they were doing, and I would - and should actually - do it again. I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering riding a scooter, moped or motorcycle.

    a big THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to help us. I see this is a fairly familiar topic and -- surprise -- comes up every year. We're going to probably go for PSDA later in the school year. Despite the $$ involved it seems like a valuable service that could help our little Einstein avoid making some mistakes in the future (and prevent those mistakes form being carried out on our local roadways).
