Swinery's BACON shortbread candy bar

I've just come back from the Swinery and today I got a chance to try their bacon shortbread candy bar now that they're back in stock after selling out. They're much bigger than I thought. Sort of like a monster TWIX bar (with the addition of bacon): a finger of crumbly/buttery shortbread, a generous layer of golden caramel, a strip of Swinery's bacon, and then covered with rich dark chocolate.

Note: A couple of bacon shortbread candy bars were indeed harmed in the production of this image. But that's just the extent to which I will suffer for the fine readers of the West Seattle Blog! :-)

  2. I'm another one of those that hasn't visited the Swinery yet or even tried their bacon, achieved by other means.

But, Christopher, I gotta tell ya, posting that pic is just. plain. EVIL!!

I'm seriously considering hitting the "Report" button on this thread! ;-)

Sorry guys. I honestly keep trying new things at the Swinery in the hope that I'll encounter something that I dislike so I can actually write something critical about them and thereby maintain some semblance of journalistic credibility. But those darned Swinery people just keep twisting their mustaches and foiling my plans.

If you work or travel downtown, you can sometimes get the hard-to-find Swinery items (including bacon) at the walk up Swinery in Pioneer Sq.
    Shhhhhhhhhh!

  8. flowerpetal, where would one find the walk up in Pioneer Square if, hypothetically, one would want to go there?

Thanks Kimberley. I like being the "new favourite person." I think you can call about avaialability before trekking over there.

  14. Am I the only person who thinks this looks and sounds absolutely disgusting? Don't get me wrong, I like bacon every so often, but prefer it with my pancakes.

CMP: Bacon isn't just for breakfast anymore.

The Swinery is hardly the first to marry bacon and chocolate. Chicago's Vosges chocolate has had huge success in the past few years with their bacon chocolate bars, which routinely sell out: http://bit.ly/moschocolate

If you've ever sprinkled a little bit of sea salt on a scoop of chocolate ice cream you'll know that there is something about the salt that really punches up the flavor of the chocolate. I think it is the saltiness of the bacon that works in its favor more than anything else. And in this case the shortbread and caramel are salty too.

Personally I think it is marvelous when foods can break out of pre-conceived notions and turn up in surprising, delightful juxtapositions. Individual tastes will obviously vary. But why not have bacon for breakfast AND dessert?

    Fantastic.
I second Original Poster: It's JUST like a fresher, thicker twix bar with a slab of cold, delicious bacon sandwiched in. But instead of the chemical blandness of twix, think high quality chocolate, fresh gooey caramel, and buttery shortbread. CMP, the bacon is cold and mostly meat, so it's not the floppy greasy thing you may be thinking of. Truly, it marries well. I bought two :)

And some chicken liver pate, as they were out of it earlier this week.

  17. Not too long after our first intro to Swinery bacon on here by Christopher, I saw a segment of Impossible Dinner on Food Network. For dessert they baked slices of bacon in the oven to keep them flat, then put them through a candy coating machine. The diners loved it....and I was sold. I haven't had one of the Swinery's candy bars yet, but it's gotta be good.

CMP..pay attention to Full Tilt's menu on their MySpace page. Go out there when they're having Memphis king...banana peanut butter ice cream with chocolate covered bacon through it...it's the best, swear !!

Cannot believe you managed to get some Semele, I am not withholding your dog's boyfriend from daycare in protest *pouty face* One of these days I'll try one.

Other than the pate, what else is a favourite Swinery buy?

It's against my better judgment to post my favorite Swinery goods (less for me in the end).

But the coppa di testa, merguez, and pork mignon are among my favorites.

In fact I can only think of 2 things I've tried there that I wouldn't buy again.

  20. OK - I need to get there soon.

re: the bacon and sweets craze- don't forget the bacon / maple bars. they have them a voodoo doughnut in Portland (is it here some where too)?

I had 'candied bacon' at a brunch meal once, and had a really hard time letting my friend try a bite, I wanted it all for myself.
yum bacon- it's one of 2 things that really keep me from being vegetarian.

  21. I've jut heard that the Shortbread-caramel-bacon-chocolate bars are back by popular demand!

A big pile of "Bacon Joys" too!
