Suspicious white panel truck

Both last week and this week (just now), I have noticed a very large white panel truck with no advertising roaming the streets. The first time was where Beach Drive dead ends into Lincoln Park. The truck was proceeding down Beach Drive and pulled into a spot that was close to a vacant high end house for sale. The spot was very suspicious, so I backed down the road to ask the driver if he was lost. Before I got there, he turned the truck around (with difficulty) and started toward me on this one way road. I pulled into a driveway and he went back out onto Beach Drive SW. The circumstances just seemed odd to me. Everyone on that dead end road knows everyone. So, I followed him, trying to get my cellphone out to take a picture of the license plate. The truck sped up to the point it was speeding along 48th Ave SW, then instead of going around the turn as 48th turns into Erskine, it went straight on 48th, still speeding. I followed it for 2 blocks, until it turned left so fast that it seemed like two wheels would leave the road. Pretty fast. I decided not to follow but to go up the road and turn on the next street. At this point, I lost him. I was not successful getting the picture and all I can remember of the plate was B588*****something.

This morning, I saw this same truck with what appeared to be the same driver (overweight black guy) driving slowly down the alley between California Ave and 44th. The truck apparently went around the block and came by a second time.

I only saw one occupant in the truck, but cannot swear there wasn't another one.

Watch out for this truck - It's a very large panel truck, about half the size of a moving truck, far bigger than a van.

It is neighborly of you to be so observant. Thanks for that. You had a cell phone with a camera; I'm glad you decided not to pursue the truck any further. I would suggest that you call the police and tell them what you saw. I would expect that they might have an officer not too far away who would cruise around the neighborhood.

  4. I actually saw this truck in the alley behind my house - they alley you mentioned above - and thought it looked a bit suspicious as it was parked in front of my neighbors garage for a while but then it moved on.

If somebody else sees this and has ready access to a camera, pls get a picture of the license plate!

  6. A family member of mine noticed a suspicious white panel truck in our neighborhood last week. Near 44th and Wildwood. He got the license plate: B4***50, but no description of the driver. Hmmm, way different license number than earlier post.

    WA plates? Or California?

  9. I'd definitely be observant! One thing I noticed the last time Amazon Fresh delivered my groceries is not all of their trucks are branded. The last one was a large white panel truck. You might give Amazon Fresh a call - or email and ask if they've been doing deliveries in your neighborhood recently. Lost driver?

I saw something similar to what was described by the OP, a large white van with a grey strip towards the bottom of the van. They were acting very suspiciously, looking around and back a lot. I stood on the stoop of my apartment and watched them for a while. They were delivering some paper book of sorts. But as I watched them, they drove up the block and into an alley, where they idled for a few minutes before speeding away. A few hours later I heard the book drop on my stoop. It seemed shady, and the plates were from California.

  11. Rules reminder.
No names, license plates, addresses, of third parties, particularly whom you might be labeling of suspicious or alleged criminal activity. The first few and last few digits are more than enough for people to know if they're looking at the vehicle you mention, but not enough to, for example, harvest names out of databases. We were flagged to a post in this thread and have cut out a few digits of the license plate number. Thanks.

some of these posts make me wonder if people in neighborhoods where i am working but pullover to check email or do paperwork before another home visit are watching me taking down my license plate as a suspicious person... or not because i am a caucasian female in a newer vehicle????

The license plate of the truck that I saw was a Washington plate. I was particularly suspicious of this truck because it was clearly big enough to move a house full of furniture, but had no markings. It was bigger than the typical Amazon Fresh delivery trucks. When the same truck came slowly down a different alley than my "home" alley, I was even more suspicious. This alley has no addresses. Their activity might be perfectly fine, but I think that close observation just might protect someone down the line. That's the best thing about this blog!

cclarue - It looks like yellow pages, but I know they aren't dropping right now. It's a phone book of some sort. I didn't look to close because it is going to the recycling.

OT, my boyfriend and I often walk around our neighborhood and point out our dream houses. I always tell him that someone is going to write a post about two curly-haired suspicious looking 20-somethings casing houses. Haha! It's nice to think that our neighbors are watching that closely. :)

Hi Lindsey. Yellow pages, and residential phone directories are being delivered in at least my neighborhood last Friday. These were published for Verizon. We live on a corner and get phone books at the front and back doors. Sheesh! Ours went into the recycle too... both sets.
