   I hesitate to say it was stolen - would someone really steal a bird feeder? - but it disappeared from my yard and is nowhere to be found. It's a large and elaborate (and expensive) 2-cage suet feeder and even though it's unlikely that a raccoon make off with it (it's mount was pretty raccoon proof and the feeder is huge and awkward), I searched around.
   .
   Return it if you "find" it to the place from which you may have mistakenly acquired it in Sunrise Heights and I will try to convince the birding community not to hunt you down and string you up.

   amalia, Seriously, I hope the feeder finds its way back to you, not only because it was expensive, but I have no tolerance for theft of others' property, no matter how "insignificant" the item is.

   However, your last paragraph put a picture in my mind of a group of angry people carrying torches and pitchforks, with binoculars around their necks! :-D

   We used to trap and relocate raccoons out of our backyard with what we thought was a sturdy, well built trap. They broke the weld on our trap twice. They are incredibly strong so maybe it was the wildlife after all. Hopefully no individual would want to steal such an item.

   Is it possible it blew away in the wind the last few days? We have a very tiny suet feeder and a bird feeder, and they were swinging wildly in the wind. I kept waiting for it to break off and fly away and probably should've brought it in, but fortunately it was a non-issue.

   It's crazy, but yeah, it was after the windstorm and someone took it. It was attached to the tree with a chain and locking carabiner (locking just means it screws shut). Those raccoons would have had to be pretty dexterous!

   Do you want another feeder? I'm happy to give you one of the ones I don't use (I only use squirrel-proof). Let me know and I'll email you my address and leave it outside for you.

   one word -- chupacabras. They love suet (ok, they love pretty much anything except tofurkey; they *really* love Taco Time mexi-fries) and they are pretty good with tools, what with those opposable 'thumbs' (claws?). Usually, they just open the feeder and steal the suet so you replace it and they can steal it again. They do operate on routes, like UPS drivers, so they don't steal suet from the same place often enough that the owner gets suspicious. They have a pretty amazing tracking system.
