Well, they really aren't. Even less so during that morning window when most of West Seattle is going somewhere (work?).
That is, if you wish to risk your life and the life of your child in the back seat by running a stop sign on your way to Schmitz Park Elementary in order to save a few minutes, I'd normally say to "go right ahead," but the fact of the matter is that your child isn't old enough to reasonably state his/her preference in the matter, so it's nor fair to them. Even less so do I appreciate you putting ME at risk (thankfully my child was in his mother's car). Even though it was clearly you at fault, having not even briefly glanced to your left before rolling right across 49th, the guild I'd be saddled with the rest of my life for being involved is simply not something I'm really open to negotiating.
Luckily, I saw your poor decision making in action and have a reasonably good-conditioned vehicle with what I now know to be a very good ABS as tested this morning. I hope the fact that you raised your arm bracing for impact and appeared to scream before what seemed almost inevitable is indicative of a moment that will have you reconsider just how important it is to save that four seconds you'd lose by coming to a full stop before crossing the street and/or the, what, 20 cents worth of gas you conserve by such an idiotic move.
Otherwise, thanks for ruining my morning!
