Stolen car found

  1. This was a topic of discussion a few months back, so thought I'd report back. My car - '96 Saturn - was stolen from Barnecut's service station in early December, but not reported to me for at least 2 weeks. Report filed with SPD on 12/20/2010. Got a call from KC Sheriff's dept. this afternoon...was found in a tow lot in Burien (had been there for a week). It is minus the motor, transmission, hood, front fender, and all 4 tires switched out for donuts...they couldn't find anything else to remove?

  2. Your poor car was the donor vehicle for something. Did the tow yard have any info about where it was towed from?

  3. no....they just let me know that it was 43 bucks a day to leave it in the tow yard - lol. At least I know the value of living donors ;-)

According to Mr. Barnecut, the engine needed a rebuild. I'm assuming that it was taken for the metal? If they reused the engine, joke's on them, I suppose...

  4. Geez. Sorry this happened to you Jan. I hope they at least left the Creedence tapes. :-)

Geez. They took the front fender?

  6. hahaha....there was at least 15-20 cassettes in a tape holder in the back seat. I'm sure there was no creedence, but just as sure that what WAS there was NOT their type of music - lol...oh, and the leopard print umbrella in the back seat wasn't exactly their type either...or maybe it was ;-)

  7. I know, ms....and it was scratched, even - lol. If I don't keep laughing, I am going to cry.

So do you have to pay the tow lot fee? It's not like it's your fault it was there.

  9. they are claiming that yes, I have to. I'm trying to figure out how to get out of it, since times are tough, considering I've cut back a bit because of testing to get transplant approval. It's not my fault it's there. And they've had it for a week...how come I'm just hearing about it now?

    BUMP!

JanS, where was the towing yard? Sounds like a letter-writing campaign or Seattle Times newspaper article, or a Call Jesse item to me, both for Barnecut's and for the towing yard. How can we help you?

  12. Count me in on any help that can be provided. This whole thing just seems wrong. I have worked in insurance and know many people that still do that could be a resource for how to proceed. I vote for lots of noise and television.

  13. the towing company is..(snicker, snicker)..Dick's Towing, in Burien. I have gotten Jesse..and I am going to simply offer them the title...period...since the hulk is of no use to me. I think big raspberries are needed all around, frankly..and I'm the one who is...oh, how can I put this nicely....getting screwed.

I realize that many people are very loyal to Barnecut's, where it was originally stolen from. I, myself, will never, ever use them again. He simply blew me off in December...and I am the one losing. :(

  14. ok..the final word. Went to impound lot, signed title over to them, talked them into waiving the fees. Done! Thank you, Dick's Towing!

  19. thanks for the pic, Jan. Again sorry for your loss, but I was glad to hear that Dick's towing did good by you.

Maybe you need to start using the phrase "Don't be a Barnecut" :-)

Sorry that anyone had to experience what you did. Will Jesse help you with the Barnecut? I hope that you contacted the Better Business Bureau and maybe even Shell (I think they are a Shell franchise). Car might not have been worth big bucks, but it was your transportation and its now, sadly, gone.

i'm really sorry this happened to you, jan.

looking at the picture: damn! it doesn't matter if they left the creedence. (lebowski references are always good for levity.) there's no battery - or battery cables - to power the tape deck.
