OK. I'm hoping there is someone out there who has the inside scoop on the people running the rink and can settle this debate I'm having with my friend.
I went to the Adult Skate (18+) last night and noticed that they were playing censored versions of all of the songs. Not only was Mumford & Sons "Little Lion Man" the radio version but they played a strange version of M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" that not only completely took out the rhythmic gun shot sounds but was missing all musical references to the Clash's "Straight to Hell". That one in particular was bizarre.
Here's the question. Is the place run by religious folk who feel the need to protect adults from certain language and themes or is it simply that they only have one version on hand that is safe to play during All Ages skate times?
In this age of digital music and hundreds of thousands of songs at our fingertips, it seemed strange, odd, and annoying to pay money for an adult experience and be met with beeps, bleeps, and blanks during the music...
Otherwise, it was a great experience. Lots of fun! I encourage everyone to check it out. Fantastic assortment of people at the 18+ skate. I'd say the majority of people were in their 30's with plenty of people on either side of that.
Roll on...
