I was wondering if anyone else uses Sound Oil and what a normal monthly bill would be? Ours is running around $300-400 dollars a month. It seems crazy. We turn off the heat when we leave the house, keep doors upstairs closed.

I always order from Seelig Fuel NEVER on contract like the way you seem to be. I've a 1400 sq ft house and have paid c $120pm,no more, through this winter. Can't recommend them enough.

  3. I use Sound Oil as well. Mine is roughly $100+ a month, tough to say exactly because they only come twice a year and I pay it in a lump sum.

I think it depends a lot more on the house itself. The one I am in now has been remodeled, has newer windows and at twice the size of my last house is the same to heat. Get a programable thermostat too, they are less than a $100 and will pay for themselves and it is nice to wake up to a warm house.

ZenGuy makes a good point to consider the insulation of the house in the windows, the walls, the door gaps, etc. Single-pane windows alone could suck nearly every penny of heat right out of your home.

  6. I heat 2,000 square feet with an annual cost of between $1,500 to $2,000. In addition I burn about 2 chords of wood in a fireplace with a glass screen. The thermostat is never set over 65 and is usually at 62. The furnace is off at night and when no one is home. Old double paned windows (which leaked) have recently been replaced so time will tell what the savings will be. The furnace is serviced annually and runs efficiently. I always feel comfortable but sometimes visitors think the house it too cold. Lots of variables here!

I think Sound Oil has some issues. They screwed up royally last year when they came and filled our tank two months in a row. Sucked for us because WE had to pay for THEIR screw up. I've been getting quotes on running a gas line to the house and converting over to gas. Sound Oil needs to be investigated for fraud.
