Somewhere in West Seattle (29): "A Cry of Grace"

  1. Brought to you by WSB member JayDee.

Bonus Hint: These words are all belonged to the same man. Going by the man's last name, we might expect him to have been a devout follower of the Easter Bunny.

  2. looks like something on a plaque down by the benches along Alki...but I'm just whistling in the wind...I really have no clue :)

  7. Cait: You're closing in, but one egg still eludes you, I think.

    (To the Batmobile, Robin!)

HunterG: Not guilty! —Unless cropping a photo counts as Photoshopping.

    In the meantime, there's this:

Is it a plaque on the Statue of Liberty at Alki?

  9. Nuh-uh.

The plaque at the Alki Statue of Liberty says: "In tribute to those who have served and sacrificed to secure for us all the blessings of liberty."

(I know that only because I read The Blog.)

I think there's another plaque there also that has something about the Boy Scouts. Or maybe that was the old plaque.

  10. Well, one can imagine it is in an inspirational spot. Not near Cactus. And there are none of the typical view benches immediately adjacent to the plaque just to be clear on that point.

  11. Weather Watch Park perhaps?

for more info about the writer, Jaune Quick-to-see Smith.

And thus, those following the Easter Bunny would be wise to follow J.Q.T.S.S. on the West Seattle Cultural Trail.
P.S. Jaune is a woman, and her words can be seen on the ground plaques by the "ghost viewers" near Anchor Park.

  14. Weather Watch Park taint it.
    Anchor Park taint it.

Taint a park 'tall, fur ez I no, but yer closin' in.

Thanks for the info about Juane, Gina. I'll study up on her. However, she was not the author of the words on this particular plaque.

And to think JayDee was worried that this wasn't going to be challenging enough. Guess you could say this fellow is hiding in plain sight.

    Peek-a-boo!

I know this place as Anchor park. When I was growing up there was a big anchor in this place it jets out into alki (near the tip of West Seattle Alki.

  20. Well I'll be darned!

Too bad I have no idea where the plaque is. But I'm keeping my eyes peeled.

  21. I believe the plaque is a little west of Anchor Park across from the 1100 block on Alki Ave.
Found a photo of it taken in 2006 on Flicker: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brewbooks/178836226/
Plaque is in memory of Jon R Eggers 1950-1977 - the poem is dated 1972.

  22. jwws and Marge C:

Close enough if somewhat directionally challenged -- East of Anchor/Luna Park, just north of Don Armeni's boat ramp. True, there is the Flickr feature but the geographic reference was broad enough to encourage me to submit it to SWiWS. I am sure there is more to the plaque's story...perhaps someone will chime in. RIP Mr. Eggers.

  23. It appears that the jig is up!

I didn't call this Anchor Park because it's not really close enough to where the actual anchor is today. I call that Luna Park.

  24. Not much in Google searches for Jon R Eggers - would love to know the story.....maybe something WS Blog can dig up!

As always, nearsighted, oblivious and directionally challenged!
