This is my year to surprise c@tl bob (who reads this only when I tell him to.) :-) I'm looking for a liquor that he remembers from the bay area -- I was going to find another bottle, but the only one we had left with the recycling.
I found it -- Amer Picon (tm) -- now, does anyone have any idea where I can find it locally (locally - < 100 miles).

Hi Charla. Amer Picon is an unusual request. It is not even found on the WA State LCB website. I believe you would have to go to visit our neighbors to the north eh?
That's one classy guy you have! Maybe a trip to the Alsace region of France is in order.

Feedback uses it in a number of their cocktails. You should ask them where they source it.

So, I called Feedback and Matt (?) makes his own! I know where we'll be tonight (or maybe tomorrow) or both.
I feel very safe, Maple -- very very very safe. Now they'll just have to buy me tix to Paris, where we can run amuck.
Remember, he wants the beret so he can perfect the Grouch Marx affect -- maybe classy? Maybe schizo. Maybe both -- or all four. :-)

I think you would be hard pressed to find Amer Picon anywhere in the States. Usually it is imported. Vessel, downtown mixes with Amer Picon. A reasonable substitute is Torani Amer; but for some there is no comparison.

Charla, I'm betting on Torani Amer, Ramazotti, orange tincture and orange bitters. If Feedback's bartender shares his secret (and I would be surprised) we'd love to read about it.
ok...going down the alphabet...to the B's...if anyone knows a source for Becherovka, besides importing it (it's a Czech liqueur) - let me know. Charlabob...when you're at Feedback, ask them about it :)
I can't help it, but I have to beat this dead horse again:
PLEASE Washington State, Please get out of the retail liquor business. Please allow people with a passion for the product and knowledge of their clientele to run liquor stores that stock more than just (or mostly) the product of giant conglomerates. Use zoning laws to prevent over-saturation of neighborhoods. Freeze hiring in the state liquor stores and transfer the remaining employees to other positions in the WSLCB until they retire. Allow MORE in-state distilleries, with tasting rooms and on-site sales.
PLEASE quit trying to micro-manage the consumption of legal alcoholic beverages by responsible, legal-age adults. I PROMISE that pretty much the same percentage of adults who currently use alcohol responsibly will continue to do so. Quit worrying about us, we can handle it.

I agree that it is a bad arrangement. It does generate revenue for the state; and I don'think the state is going to cut loose of anything that is making money for them right now.

And Jan, good news, Bechorovka can be special ordered by your liquor store. It's about $28 a bottle.

But dawson, who is going to protect you from the evils of liquor consumption, especially on Sundays? Who's going to look out for your kids?
We need the state to intervene in these matters because we're simply not able to control ourselves.
Seriously though there was an interesting segment on NPR a few days ago about some state legislators trying to do away with the state-run liquor stores. They're saying it's a costly operation to run and all of the "revenue" (note there's a difference between revenue and profit, unless you're in the government I guess) could be replaced via sales taxes on liquor via private stores.
The spokesman for the WSLCB's counter was that a) high-paying retail jobs would be lost and b) the state is the only entity capable of keeping liquor out of the hands of minors. Unbelievable.
This reminds me I need to contact Eileen Cody's office.

Well, we went to Feedback tonight and I can only say leave your houses immediately and go there to imbibe a Brooklyn. I'm sure everything else is wonderful, but the Brooklyn, which includes Rye and Amer Picon and .... was amazing!
C@lbob will post the history of Amer Picon and links to the recipes -- later -- I can only say Matthew and probably other folks at FB are true mixologists.
