But dawson, who is going to protect you from the evils of liquor consumption, especially on Sundays? Who's going to look out for your kids?
We need the state to intervene in these matters because we're simply not able to control ourselves.
Seriously though there was an interesting segment on NPR a few days ago about some state legislators trying to do away with the state-run liquor stores. They're saying it's a costly operation to run and all of the "revenue" (note there's a difference between revenue and profit, unless you're in the government I guess) could be replaced via sales taxes on liquor via private stores.
The spokesman for the WSLCB's counter was that a) high-paying retail jobs would be lost and b) the state is the only entity capable of keeping liquor out of the hands of minors. Unbelievable.
