So they ARE scared to let her speak!

  1. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/21/us/politics/21debate.html?_r=3&hp=&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&adxnnlx=1222015830-wJbQCzntgw5cFKIDKZDikw

god forbid she actually speaks and shows everyone what a moron she is. This is freaking ridiculous.

FTA: "McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive."

    Posted 3 years ago #
  2. Yeah, I too thought this was a bit odd. We all know Biden is not all that politically correct when he speaks so just let them loose and have a normal debate. Don't pick a candidate because she's a woman and then try to hide/protect her from people getting to know who she really is or what she really thinks. She (and Biden) could be our president if something terrible happens and we should know as much as we can ahead of time to make an informed decision now.

I think this attempt to shield us from Palin by the McCain camp is going to hurt them a lot in the long run too.

I've been chewing on this overnight and it IS crazy. When asked about taking on the VP position, she's ready for the challenge, didn't blink, yadayadayada, but she's not ready for an unscripted debate? Whatever. She can field dress a moose but there is still a need to protect the little lady? I'm hoping that a) the questions have some real weight to them - let's play stump the candidate and b) since this was a negotiation for all four debates, the Obama-Biden camp got something good for the presidential debates.

ooooh, it's like, go easy on the little lady, boys!

  5. So ridiculous. Ugh!

  6. so it's only in her imagination that she can play with the big boys?

Thanks for putting the link up JenV for everyone. I have thought from the minute she was announced that McCain was not going to have a campaign, but rather a Candidate Protection Program.

I think, though, regardless of how structured the debate format, Biden is just going to eat her up and spit her back out, without even making much effort. I find it incomprehensible. She would ALWAYS be called upon to speak extemporaneously...they would ALWAYS have to run a diversionary game around her. Pitiful.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  8. Two claps for JenV!
I read that same article yesterday and thought how hypocritical once again they are fearful of her lack of debating experience.
Biden will eat her up, but I think if she answers one question right out of 8, they will still point out the underdog came out victorious over a seasoned senator.

dood, "Candidate Protection Program" ha ha ha exactly.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  10. The only thing we have to worry about in a debate is her being perceived as the slow kid on the playground that gets all the sympathy.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  11. Mr JT..

you hit the nail on the head.

Sarah Palin is going for the pity vote.. and if those big band mean dems pick on her.. she'll get a bigger vote.

Ok, so she is also there for the racist vote and the right to life vote and the christian right wing mom vote...

but the more we pick on her the more people will vote for McCain just to show us...

it is really pitiful that the republicans have fielded a candidate they have so little confidence in.

  15. I had no problem following the link to that article...

my only complaint is that it was in the new york times and not edited (to remove actual facts) in people magazine where the people who will vote for her would read it.

I did not watch the entire interview - just saw a long-enough snippet of McCain's 60 Minutes interview. The interviewer mentioned that as of this weekend - presumably - Biden had done 82 interviews, appearances, etc. since announcing. Ms. In-Over-Her-Head? Two. That's right. Two.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  18. WSdood, that's an amazing statistic. It's just so outrageous! What is wrong with people thinking she is so great? I just don't get it. (Oh, and I loved that photo in this morning's PI of her in a crowd after a speech, receiving a giant lipstick from an admirer ... gag.)

    Posted 3 years ago #
  19. but her 2 got more coverage than biden's 82...

I like this as an addition or alternative if you're into reproductive freedom: Donate $15 or more to Naral and they'll send you a bumper sticker that says "McCain Palin: 15th Century Solutions for the 21st Century" https://secure.prochoiceamerica.org/site/Donation2?idb=914366849&df_id=3781&3781.donation=form1

And, RE: 60 Minutes' McCain interview, I found it interesting that when he was asked it he thought Palin was ready for the job, his words said YES but he shook his head NO through his entire answer. Limbic system beats out coritical function, eh?

  29. There is a movement now by reporters to boycot Palin at the UN since they are not granting any interviews. Finally the press is playing their appropriate role in this country.

    Posted 3 years ago #
  30. well, they seemed to have fixed that boycott, sorta...coincidentally, this information came out today....

"NEW YORK (CNN) -- Frankly I have had it, and I know a lot of other women out there who are with me on this. I have had enough of the sexist treatment of Sarah Palin. It has to end.

She was in New York on Tuesday meeting with world leaders at the U.N. And what did the McCain campaign do?

They tried to ban reporters from covering those meetings. And they did ban reporters from asking Gov. Palin any questions.

I call upon the McCain campaign to stop treating Sarah Palin like she is a delicate flower who will wilt at any moment.

This woman is from Alaska for crying out loud. She is strong, she is tough, she is confident. And you claim she is ready to be one heartbeat away from the presidency. If that is the case, then end this chauvinistic treatment of her now. Allow her to show her stuff. Watch Brown call on the McCain campaign to 'Free Sarah Palin' »"

"But Sarah Palin's performance in the tiny vignettes of unscripted dialogue in which we've been allowed to see her has been nothing short of frightening -- really, as I said, pity-inducing. And I say that as someone who has thought from the start that the criticisms of her abilities -- as opposed to her ideology -- were much too extreme. One of two things is absolutely clear at this point: she is either (a) completely ignorant about the most basic political issues -- a vacant, ill-informed, incurious know-nothing, or (b) aggressively concealing her actual beliefs about these matters because she's petrified of deviating from the simple-minded campaign talking points she's been fed and/or because her actual beliefs are so politically unpalatable, even when taking into account the right-wing extremism that is permitted, even rewarded, in our mainstream. I'm not really sure which is worse, but it doesn't really matter, because with 40 days left before the election, both options are heinous."

"COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? ... Instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

PALIN: Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy– Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions."

    http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4478156n

"COURIC: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

PALIN: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land-- boundary that we have with-- Canada. It-- it's funny that a comment like that was-- kind of made to-- cari-- I don't know, you know? Reporters--

    COURIC: Mock?

PALIN: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.

COURIC: Explain to me why that enhances your foreign policy credentials.

PALIN: Well, it certainly does because our-- our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of. And there in Russia--

COURIC: Have you ever been involved with any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

PALIN: We have trade missions back and forth. We-- we do-- it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where-- where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is-- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to-- to our state."

  34. Wow. That is terrible. I take my response from the cinematic classic Billy Madison:

"what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

OMG ignorance in all its blazing glory

Along those lines, McCain hadn't even read the Paulson 3-page report until last Tuesday, four full days after its publication. (he hadn't had a chance to see it "in writing")

where are the conservative apologists now?

When you watch the first part of the Palin interview (on economy) you can literally see her look down at notes. You can see Katie glance down there once too. Katie looked so irritated. I'm trying to find the clip of them walking and talking about Fannie/Freddie...

So I'm guessing that McCain-Palin camp isn't loving CBS now between Katie and Dave. Let's count who has "done them wrong" to date - MSNBC (by default, CNBC and NBC), CNN (by default, HeadlineNews), CBS. Do we think the McCains still like ABC after The View? Don't know. They still have Fox though.
